Yeah, we had our brand new '09's out. I don't know why they put them out this early - I was really hoping all the companies would wait until at least the end of October to push next year's line up but after winning KB4C with it (thanks to Jim Bison at New Winds! Thumb's Up), I decided not to wait when we heard they were available.

I rode an '09 10m Nemi HP in KB4C for the first time and then again today for the second time. I'm pretty impressed with the kite. The '08 Nemi was no slouch at going upwind but the '09 definately out points it. It really helped me in KB4C and I tested it again today by going quite a ways down wind and made it back up above the rock in one tack. Just about going straight into the waves for most of the tack. I really think the upwind ability is what made the difference for me at KB4C. I was first around the course and could outpoint almost everybody out there if I needed to.

I think the '09 Nemi also jumps higher and floats longer than the '08. I didn't jump it at all during KB4C so this was my first session testing it out and it seemed like I immediately added an easy 10 to 15' on almost all of my jumps and had a lot more hang time.

The '09 also responds quicker to bar input and can just about pivot on a wing tip if you want it to. I sent it straight down to the water a few times when the big lulls came through and I could pull it out just above the water with very little input. But it also felt quite stable in the air and never got out of position during my jumps and spins. So far the "Twister Tech" in the leading edge seems to be working very well.

The only bad thing I've noticed so far is that it seems a little more sensitive to oversheeting than the '08. It didn't fall backwards out of the sky on me at all but I did choke the power down a number of times. I switched my lines from the 3rd knot (where I ride all of my '08's) to the 2nd knot and that helped some and got my depower strap back in the middle of it's range. The wind was really up and down this afternoon so I'm looking forward to a little more consistent day to work on the tuning.

I did crash the kite once on a trick gone wrong and it relaunched quite easily. Not as easy as a Waroo or T3 but not bad.

I think the '09 10m Nemi could easily become my new favorite kite!

Tony

bulae99 - this kite is definately not the same kite as last years. It looked higher aspect although we haven't put 2 10's side by side. I feels like its got more of the high jumping and hang time capabilities like the old 2005 & 2006 Nemi's had. Relaunch was quicker because the kite pivots much quicker. When flying it, it turns faster than the 08's. The best test will be when the 14's come out.

As Tony pointed out, tuning is different as we used to ride the 3rd knot and I think I'm going to try the 1st as I had to depower it although I was overpowered on the 10 yesterday but couldn't resist trying the new kite out. Hopefully we will get some smoother wind today for better testing.

If you want to try mine, you can. Catch me at the beach.
