I bought the NSI Sandbag because it seems like a practical accessory, as did the Slingshot Surefire Spreader bar. I appreciate the comments on that bar in another thread.
Are there any disadvantages (besides having to carry one more item) to using the sandbag compared to using a kiteboard to hold the kite down? I would make sure the bag folds over the leading edge without pressing the fabric down on the ground beneath the kite.
Also, has anyone used it for self launching, either using it to weight a folded tip or using it as an anchor for an anchor launch? I often have to launch from odd locations back home such as paved areas where I cannot park my vehicle. |

Thank you for buying a locally made product.
To self launch you'll need to make sure you have
enough weight for conditions. Just add some rocks
if it's not enough. If your kite looks like it wants
to blow away, add more weight.
I am not familiar with self launching a SLE or Bow
kite with a sand bag.
I often hook the front fins of my quad over the leading
edge of my upside down C kite and then pile some sand
ahead of the front pad to do a self launch. Works a
treat.
Be careful that the sand bag doesn't slide off of the
leading edge if you place it on top of the LE tube in
between sessions. A flapping kite can knock it off
quite easily. I rarely leave my kite fluttering on the beach.
Have fun! |
