iKitesurf forcast is 20-24 for Jones Beach tomorrow. I haven’t been there for many years (used to windsurf there). Are there usually kiteboarders around to get a launch or catch?
Also is there Kiteboarding access across the river at “Nuke Alley”? I remember that the wind was always stronger and more consistent there, I just don’t remember the beach access and how that would be with a Kite?

Plenty of room to self launch and land on Jones beach, but if it is going to be that strong tomorrow, on a Sat, you should have no problem finding someone to launch/land you. I don't know of any launching spot on the Washington side. Real Estate is tight over there, best just to sail over to the alley. Watch out for those huge ships, as they will starve you kite of wind and it will drop out of the sky. . .

Have fun.

Yeah tons of room on OR-side.

As far as launching from nukey alley....got to get in with one of the home-owners if you wanna peice. Last summer we had some sick days on a little private beach where my buddy talked with the owner and he gave us permission...but parking and all that is usually a bitch.

Ya, I remember the parking was always a bitch at the alley, even back in the 80's javascript:emoticon('Sad')

Is that where the wind is supposed to be this weekend? My pops is coming in and I doubt there's going to be any wind at the spit...

i just looked at a lot of forecasts. looks like tomorrow there's wind at Jones or extreme southern OR, like Pistol River style. some easterlies super-far east. some unlikely potential for late day westerlies from HR to the Rufus. That's my synopsis. i dont have ikite, though.
If you've never been to Jones, try it, it's mellow. lots of sand and room. prolly decent for beginners, if the wind doesn't nuke, which it often does.
Here's a vid of the 40+mph winds that hit last weekend at jones....

Link

pretty crummy vid. but about 20 kiters all bailed when it picked up. my 7m was pinned to the ground and nearly impossible to deflate!

I hear Jones is the place tomorrow. The Seattle contingent is also invading.
I'm looking east on sunday.

go to the following link:

http://www.goingoutside.com/beach/1001669_Jones_Beach_Oregon.html

You can mapquest it from there.

also, I'm not sure which directions mapquest will give you - but you are going to want to take the I-5 North up towards longview and then there is an exit that will take you into longview (go west) and then from longview you cut back on over into oregon over a bridge - take a right - go through clatskanie (sp?) and then take a right on Pt. Adams like 6 miles past clatskanie - follow Pt. Adams it winds around and then take that to River Front rode. Follow River Front rode for like 1/2 a mile to the sandy area. There are several places to launch from. If you have a 4 wheel drive you can drive right up to the launch - otherwise park by the road and just walk on over. Watch out for rednecks on their dirt bikes - they don't seem to comprehend the dangers of kiting. Those are the best directions I can give you.

When you are on State Route #30 and you've passed beyond Clatskanie, keep an eye out for an asian restaurant on the left, the road to Jones is directly across from the restaurant. It's got a RR crossing.
