If the decision for how to score the KB4C teams is still undecided, we would like to make the proposition that scoring be on a cumulative basis (all riders total laps combined for to make a teams total score).
Team IRV and Team Scotty Edgar, both have discussed this and are both in agreement. A relay idea would be a nice thought, but for both our teams, all of our riders plan to be on the water all day, gunning for both individual results and team results.
Also discussed in this link - http://www.nwkite.com/forums/t-13236.html

Cumulative sounds like the best format to me. The more laps everyone does, the more the sponsors donate, right? A relay format would stifle the total amount of laps done by all riders since only one member of each team would ride at a time...and the event's primary goal is to raise money, not to create some super strategic competition or whatever.
Plus it'll be more fun to watch more riders vying for the individual victory. Seems to me like a relay format would be a bit selfish, and if a team doesn't have 4 members willing to commit to riding the whole time, then maybe that team isn't strong enough to be the winner of the team portion.
If someone's concerned that they won't be able to win the team portion because not all of their members want to stay out the whole time then that person at least still has the opportunity to do well individually.
The point of KB4C isn't to win prizes, etc (either individually or as a 4 person team), it's to raise money and win as a community! Let's not stifle our ability to do this by limiting total laps done by all riders, and therefore limiting sponsor donations. I might be wrong, but I don't think a relay format will promote more or less participation...are there really people who will only enter the event only if they think they have a chance of winning? I'm sure there are plenty of people only planning to go out for a few hours and don't care about winning a prize.
my 2 cents

Also, how about each team needs at least one girl riding. Can't leave all the slogging around the course to the guys!

Ok, first of all Tony, I gotta call you out on that comment. The girls rip just as hard as the guys -- especially at endurance!! So, no... there will be no "girl" requirements.
The KB4C committee is meeting on the topic of teams RIGHT NOW so we will have an answer shortly. We are leaning toward cumulative laps for Teams, in which each rider charges as hard as they can all day, and the total number of laps for the team wins.
But we will post as soon as we make a decision!!
Thanks Everyone!!

| You know, I’m glad this is all getting sorted out 48 hours before the event- provides clarity on what this event is about. I was caught up on the charity and compassion aspects. Whew! What was I thinking? Then again, I do not mind accumulative as I came in Top Ten last year, but, I was more proud of the nearly $3000 I raised for this worthy cause- two women in my family are cancer survivors as of this past year- and one other did not survive. Could we concentrate on the mission at hand and worry less about making this into a competition? Yep- I’m on a “team”

Hi Viento, no worries. We are not trying to 'up' the competition here. Out team is formed with the intent of our all wanting to endure kiting the whole 6 hours all together with the common cause of doing it for our friend Irv who competed last year and is recovering from his 2nd battle with cancer.
Whether there is a relay or cumulative we are all good.
In the end our team was originally formed because of our mutual respect and admiration for our friend Irv.
Sorry if my questions are causing any hassles, it just had not been clear about what the team format was and we had been fielding many questions and speculations amongst a couple of groups of kiters here in town.
Thanks
Pepi

| Noone should get bent out of shape about this. For me this event is about having fun, raising awareness and money to fight a terrible disease, and spending time with friends and family to remember what is really important in life. None of these things are mutually exclusive.

Thank You
Zero kite skills, still mowing the lawn with puny jumps, barely consistent back-rolls, no team. But I'm still going to give this my best and stay out there til I'm half dead. The last two years have been to best day of the entire year for me. Maybe we almost raised $100k, but I drove back to Tacoma with a million in my heart and soul for this community, and mankind as a whole.
See ya all t'night.

Hey I know I may have come off a little bitter, I just don’t want this to be all about the race and more about the cause. I like the team idea because frankly I think it will draw more people to the event and in the end that means more cash to help prevent this terrible disease. If you have a team and everyone want to ride the whole time then why don’t all of you ride as individuals dedicating your day to whomever you like. When it comes down to the competition side of things who ever wins the individual race is far more impressive then the team event anyway. Last year I rode with my future mother in-law cheering me on (just got married last weak ) she was as beautiful as ever and as bald as a queue ball from treatment and whether I was a team of four or an individual she felt the love of the entire event. 100K

Hey Tonia, I agree with you, there are quite a few gals that hold their own against the guys, especially when it comes to endurance. I'm just thinking that if they see a bunch of testosterone stacked teams out there they may elect to sit and watch rather than ride. I'm just throwing out ideas to help get more people on the water.
The big stoke for me is being out on the water with everyone supporting the same cause. I'd much rather spend the day with a 100 or 200 riders going round and round than 50.
Now back to fundraising!

| Also, how many riders on a team? I've been assuming 4 but thought I should check.

Troll thanks for the love and being there it was a great day and everything went perfect. My mother in-law who is a survivor and my wife did an amazing job. The Troll was tame and under control for the most part that was until he brought out our wedding gift, it must have been 2 gallons of Patron!!!
