So have our Railroad friends backed off their threats of prison time/fines?

Yoda sure has been a camera whore latley Laughing ....nice pics Tony
What a crazy day at Lyle, I counted 50+ kites on the water and another 20-30 on the sand. Shocked Minus the gusty wind and getting draged over a hidden stump it was a great day

I heard Lyle was good yesterday, sandbar wind was weak crap but at least it was nice to sit on the grass and look at our kites.

A few favors to ask in order to help keep Lyle access from going away (because it really is close to happening):

- Absolutely park in the lot across the highway and do so in a way that as many cars as possible can park there. Do not ever under any circumstances block or hinder use of the access road on the north side of the highway.

- After you get a sesh in, head into town and be a patron at one of the local shops. Make sure they know you were there to kite. Maybe mention the issue of the railroad crossing. If we are going to keep Lyle access its going to be because the community is behind us.

- Pack out any trash and maybe try to pick up any you see. Enviornmental impact is another key factor in the access to this spot.

- If you like Lyle access join CGKA (see link at top of site), they will be an advocate for you in keeping access.

- Share this information with others you see at Lyle, help spread the word. We've sort of been "flying under the radar" with Lyle access, but 50+ kites will no doubt get unneeded attention.

Thanks! Thumb's Up

Lyle was sickness for sure. Boosting huge on 9m towards the end fo the day after many cleared out.

Also, if you notice people standing on the tracks to watch the kiters and take pictures, please explain to them that the RR does not want people loitering on the tracks for any reason and that it is threatening our access.

I heard the horn blasting yesterday and then saw 5 tourists scouring off the tracks. Still a little nervous about the RR cops. There are RR work trailers, equipment and what not right behind the convenience store in Bingen. So it seems to be a short hop for them to drive up and see what is going on.

Just FYI to the cgka (prolly already know), but:
there were probably 15 cars parked on the south side of the road, and some definitely blocking the access road to some extent. Also cars parked on the north side of the highway but not in the lot...(which was full).
Just thought people should know what went down. It was crazy to see so many riders there. Got some crazy boosts on an 11m Shocked

I have been to Lyle a lot this year and noticed that there are still people parking on the south side of the road when the lot across the street is empty. Rolling Eyes Not sure why they do it but if you catch em in the act please be sure to let them know that they are hurting our chances of keeping access to Lyle, and politely ask them to move their car into the lot across the street.

I talked with Brian from Open Ocean yesterday and he agreed it has been evolving into a problem that needs to be addressed.. Basically like we all have said before, if we play our cards right and don't screw this up maybe we can get an access like they did at Dougs.. He just wanted to make sure that we understood there is no track-jumping, etc... and he also talked about parking on the south side of HWY...

like chooch said, I still really confused on why people park on the south side of the HWY anyways...what's the point..? chime in here if you got any clue, cause I don't.

lets play by the rules cause Lyle is sick!

We don't park over there, so I can't say anything. We ski in... However, yesterday, I had to take the day off I was beat from the jet ski support for KB4C and still trying to get over my stomach virus. When I looked over there were so many kites in the air, and then on the beach.... It was something I'd never seen over there before...

No lie there was at least 50 kites there. I was a little nervous about it since I wasn't sure what was going on with the whole Lyle access, and then looking over highway 14 there were a ton of cars.... Would be great if people could carpool. Anyhow would also be nice to be able to have more kiters visiting the local community over there and showing support for them and hopefully, they will show the support back to us. Places were closing because of lack of business!

I tried to go to the Country Cafe' on Saturday around 4pm for lunch just to find out they close from noon till 6pm. If more of us support the town, they may open all day and help support our access.

What's the plan when this lot is totally full, like it was on Sunday? People had to park in the breakdown lanes on the South AND North side of the highway Sad

The Lyle access issue is big. It's way bigger than the CGKA can deal with at this point in time.

Right now were going to focus efforts at Rowena to see if it can be improved as an alternative launch.

I would also like to explorer the area across from Doug's as there is a nice beach there, and it could use a clean-up (hobo meth-camp with lots of car batteries sitting in the water). I'm interested in seeing what the path is that these homeless people use to get to the beach that they're destroying.

My opinion is that you guys should start looking for a close kayak lunch if you really don't want to see the RR shut you out.

Come on Forest..Hand off the baton if the CGKA can't handle it right now.

I thought a bunch of people stepped up to help (myself included). Maybe a brew session and information download is required?

I generally park on the south side of the highway- Never in the railroad access zone and always off the HWY14 pavement. It seems that parking on the north side of the HWY accomplishes the same thing - CROSSING the tracks illegally. I've noticed the majority of folks cross HWY 14 from the North thru traffic to cross the tracks versus under the bridge. 15 years ago it was the same thing with crossing HWY14 to access Dougs East without a proper track crossing. Ultimately no parking signs were put up with a fence. It's obvious the issue here isn't parking (as long as its respectful to neighbors and the law) but crossing the tracks. I thought it would get shut down 3-4 years ago - Look at it this way its been 3-4 more years of great kiting access! Maybe the CGWA could assist us on this one like @ Dougs. i hope there are some solutions versus closure. My 2 cents

Someone...-possibly a lyle local; you might know them--(I don't)-- is always parking their car right in front of the access road blocking it off. Every time. It's easy to spot because it's a brownish-gold electric vehicle- you know the one.

Sorry, what I meant was that we don't have enough money and organized people at the moment. We (CGKA) are doing what we can but that there are big forces at work and it's a difficult battle (maybe one that will be lost.) We need to get a crossing over the tracks designed and funded. We need to get the US Forest Service to perform an environmental study, maybe we could help with this to speed it along. We need to establish a parking lot to keep WDOT happy.

I just want people to know the non-sugarcoated truth. Getting approved access at Lyle is going to be amazing and historic when it happens. The CGWA had thousands of members, thousands of dollars, and a few lawyers when they got Doug's Beach.
