Radio annoucement this AM from R.R. track cops

Heard from one of our customers who received a ticket last month, that she, another kiter and a stupid tourist were all three given tickets, so not limited to kiters.

The radio ad likely hit the target as kiters are the primary violators of these laws. So if it pissed you off, then the ad worked.

As for a mass protest, you should first research the laws pertaining to railroad track crossing violations and illegal blocking of emergency/maintainance roadways. You may find that those laws are very strong, in fact some of the strongest and with the most validation.

Just something to think about before you do something that could be perceived as very stupid and having this reflect on the whole kite community.

I, too, feel everyone's pain, but it reflects better on the kite community to do things that are smart, versus things that are emotional and possibly selfish or stupid.

Agreed. I heard once that shutting down one of the tracks running up the gorge costs the 1's of millions of dollars per day. That might upset some peeps.

A finicky front crossed Oregon Last night. Morning clouds were shading the river all the way to The Dalles, and morning gradients were at .07. The low teens start builds to 23-26 later on, with Doug’s and Maryhill being the windiest spots today. Speaking of doug’s, if you are planning on using the Lyle sandbar for kiteboarding or anything else, don’t. The railroad police are issuing thousand-dollar tickets. This is no urban legend. This is the real deal. Don’t cross the tracks in Lyle.

...so are tickets issued to those on the access driveway or is it being issued to cars parked across the street? Question

Not sure about parking tickets Mike. I think that they are currently issuing tickets for walking across the tracks only.

I loved kiting at lyle but I think that everyone needs to remember that's it is our own goddamn fault that we are in the situation we are in. People were posting don't F 'ing park on that side and don't park in front of the road and people did it anyway. I also doubt it was a tourist who ripped down the signs.
So maybe next time when people don't follow the rules and they are politly told so and still don't do anything, tire slashing and keying is in order.

Stop being so fucking selfish, rules apply to everyone.

Same goes for connecting your lines at the event site. "it's so confusing" bullshit. Pump and dry only.

Ok. . .I've only kited Lyle once. . . couple of seasons back--I prefer the ocean and or if I have to kite the river I just go to the SB or Rufus.

My point being, I'm not familar with Lyle and the terrain and access. But if one can't cross over the RR, then go under the bridge at the river. If one can't walk along the river, then how about this?

Get some kid to run the Grinch/winch upriver of the RR bridge, attached a drift boat to the line and give rides up and down the river? If you love the area so much for riding, seems like tolls could be collected to pay for equipment and or any insurance. Run with it. Like I said, I don't ride there, but lots do, especially when the SB gets full of KOOKS and or the wind is better farther east.

Seems like some college kid could make a summer living at it.
