Water temps are in the mid 70's now. You can get by without a wetsuit unless a cold front blows in from the north. I'm still wearing my 1/2mm shorty in the waves.

There are some jelly fish in the gulf side and some sting rays here and there although they are really really rare. I've had one really mild jellyfish sting in the last three years of visiting. Supposedly there are some sharks hanging around the entrance to the ship channel but we never kite within a mile of that so I haven't seen any. Saw a couple of dolphins the other day - that was pretty cool!

Little car is fine - get as cheap as you can and as small as can fit your gear. No 4x4 required.

Tony,

Thanks for the offer. I'm actually going to wait till the end of the month and do the SPI RoundUp... Hopefully, I'll know other kiters down there or be able to meet peeps to kite with.... Flyin solo! Don't want to be kitin solo, always want a buddy, safer that way:-)

Darn site wasn't letting me register, and I wrote to the organizer, but no response as of yet!

I'll see you all down there......

Hey Janet, Katie, Madison and I will be down there from 26th to 10th of May. From the 19th to the 25th we're going to be hitting the Cable Park and hanging with Family in San Antonio where we grew up. It's about 4 hours drive to San Antonio and another 30 minutes to the Cable Park if you're interested. Worth it if there is a few days stretch of no wind.

SAHWEEET!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I will be out there April 29-May11... PM me and let me know where you are staying! I've been trying to register, but I can't get through, it goes to PayPal and states that the merchant is not accepting payment at this time, and throws me back to the SPI ROUNDUP registration page. I've tried to e-mail the contacts/co-founders, but no response as of yet.... I'm so glad you two, two and a half, three will be out there! Are you driving from Oregon, or flying in and renting a vehicle? I'd love to check-out the cable park..... That would be awesome...

Keep in touch man!
Janet

Thanks for the pay pal info.

I just talked to them and they are working on it now. You can call Air Padre and talk to Grom or the webmaster at 956 299-9463.

when i lived there, i was constantly fighting jellyfish stings, caught a stingray fishing once, and saw people catching sharks from the beach (little ones). A lot must have changed!!!

are there still dead man-o-war spread out along the beach?

Nice pictures Carol!
Damn I miss those Godiva chocolate waves! Kent and I were supposed to be on our way down there right now, but LV has been unstopable with 5m days and no people! Ride some for me.

Thanks Carol. I'll try to give a call in-between appointments... I just don't want to be charged the extra dough, when I've been trying for several days to register and e-mailed the co-founders with no response.

Can't wait to get down there...

tiny e you are scaring me! Jellyfish are not my friends, and I won't have my hubby to pee on any stings! Yeah, sounds gross but it works... I used to spend lots of time at the Jersey Shore as a youngster:-)

The problem is fixed. The website should be accepting Paypal again. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Last spring I had a light day on the gulf with so many jelly fish it was hard to get planing (kept hitting them) - but never got stung. But watch for the purple ones, they will sting ya.

Carol/Tony-
You getting hit with the rain we've seen in Texas? How's the weather been? It's raining here today, was a beautiful sunny day yesterday, and this weekend should be 80*....
