Wed Apr 08, 09 7:05 am Don’t throw away your old kites – We’ll use them! |

We are a group of artists and kiters. We are working on a project using old kites rather than seeing them thrown away.
Please contact us if you have an old or torn kite that you are no longer using – help us give it a new life!

Where are you located? I have an all-green 10m out of commission in the SF bay area and can bring it with me to Portland/Hood River late next month. I was planning to swing by Caution with it as I heard they have a recycling program. |

Are either of you 5013C's? That way people who donate can write them off, just a thought.... I thought I read an article about either the one in NYC or CA that is a non-profit... URL's please... Thanks, Janet |

kitecycle.org is the company out of Santa Cruz, CA, that just got 501C3 profit in April. Lydia also just opened a new center down in La Ventana. She trained the women at the new Women's business center and kites can be dropped off at Palapas Ventana.
There is also a women in Maui that just launched a similar company but as far as I know, Lydia only one so far with non profit status. _________________ Marina

When we donate these kites, I'm pretty sure these folks are making items out of them and then selling them for profit that goes dirrectly into their wallets.. Am I incorrect? Basically we are feeding them raw material to run their business inwhich makes me wonder about the non-profit pitch.
I would love to be able to donate kites and get an apraised value to be used to write off with like Good Will etc. Can someone educate us on this deal? I'm interested...

well, who is in business to work for free and not make money?
the tax write off works like anything else you donate to nonprofit charity. You get a form, you write in the amount and deal with it yourself on your taxes...It's basically all done on the honor system..... _________________ Marina

Here's my little sewing project called "Ode to the Fuel" (the shade wall is not hooked down and blowing a bit) The LE is real and it does inflate!
One of a kind fo sho!
These tents and all other Coleman products are available to CGKA at our cost. Tents run about 120 bux each instead of 230 retail.
You can deduct donations when you itemize your deductions on the 1040 form, you can't deduct using the 1040EZ form.
I have a whole trash bag full of scraps to give away if someone's paying the shipping from St Petersburg,Fl.

Federico and Jim: I'm fascinated by the (no doubt socially and ecologically responsible) work you're doing with what would otherwise be a sorely neglected resource. There are those, of course, who might just solicit donated kites on forums such as this one only to turn around and sell them on E-bay or Craigslist to hapless idiots who don't know enough to buy their gear from a reputable source. Thank Goodness you two are out there providing a more ethically sound example for the rest of the world to follow... I would love to see some examples of the fine work you're both doing, and find it curious that neither of you posted a website. I can only imagine that this was an oversight on your part, and look forward to each of you posting a link so that we can all see exactly what you're doing with these kites you're asking us to hand over... _________________ "Resist much, obey little."
