I see what looks like pretty private property on the East end of that road. On the West end (near Cottonwood Beach Park), it looks fairly public.
So Henry... is there a sign or something stating walking/biking only? |

That does look like somewhat public access, judging from the kayaks. But I'm also guessing (haven't been there) that the flats are closer to Reed Island. That's over 1/2mi downwind. Fun downwinder to get there, but not so fun getting back. |

So the next question is: who knows the farmer?
Someone's gotta have a hook up. Otherwise maybe we should nominate someone to go sweet talk them. Nak and Mark, you guys sure those local girls you ran into at the flats aren't the farmer's daughters?

They weren't at the flats, they were at Rooster...  The wind died at the flats, so we ran up to the ponds.
I would love to have access to that beach. it's about a 12 minute drive from my house. |

I've been on the nice beach / property. Its a private ranch, and you have to drive through a pasture (with cows) to get to the beach.
I was there last fall (Thanksgiving day actually) when I lost my kite at RR and I was looking for it (found it.)
The beach is sweet with nice grass and steps that go down to sand. But its all private. I am sure you could access the nice beach via the water though (with a boat.) The rancher was nice enough to let me in, but didn't look like the type who was interested in a bunch of kiters invading his pasture.
Other thoughts on lower beaches from RR: You can launch at the Corbett exit if the water is low enough. There is some parking there and an access ramp. Henry and I scouted it last year and its pretty okay, though when we were there the wind was pretty flukey/punchy. It needs to be nuclear at Rooster for it to work well.
More east wind secrets... If you want the steadiest winds possible in the Gorge, just head to Viento next east day. Pretty flat water, and uber steady winds. You can also check out the weigh station just east of Viento that we nick named "Trevor's Hole" ....Sometimes its a bit windier at Trevor's hole.
There's also the downwinder to Cascade Locks or Stevenson, about 3/4 through there is a rock jetty that sticks out and has awesome glassy flat water. Just watch for fishing poles |

| There's also a trail I found today that drops you down to a nice beach pretty much directly across from Crown Point. Looks to be only a few hundred yards downwind from Rooster |
