Shark attacks on the west coast are most frequent August - October w/ September the peak month. There were fatal attacks on surfers in Santa Barbara county October of 2010 and 2012 ..
Very cool to see one ..

No way! It's alive...THE TROLL that is. Did these early Fall rains awake you from you're hibernation under the bridge? Welcome back! You and DangleMaster123 are certainly entitled to your respective opinions/speculations.
Now stop typing and start pumping (your kite that is) and go get some; maybe you'll even see a shark out there.

That was also likely to be a Salmon Shark.
They migrate and follow the salmon. I am a commercial salmon fisherman and I also saw a shark out on the Sunset Strip in 2009.
http://www.surfline.com/surf-news/_30130/
The salmon sharks look almost identical to a white.
And they are more likely to come in and eat migrating Coho salmon as they hunt around sandbars.
The Coho run is again predicted to be one of the biggest.....as it was in 2009.
Coincidence?
Biologist concur that there are likely a lot of salmon sharks out there right now.
And as far as they know.....they don't eat humans.

can't believe all the people arguing this post. GW's are all over the place, so why is it so difficult one was sighted?

Encountered an adult great white 9 or so years ago surfing on my own, down in Central California.....scary shit, I still remember it photographically to this day.
