El norte has come and gone yesterday. That is when people pull out their sevens. In 6 years I have only used my 7 twice. During el norte this week I used my 9 with short lines. Winds were 10-35 not much fun but the waves were epic. If you bring 2 kites, I vote for 9 and 12. I weigh 160. El norte shows up once every 3 or 4 weeks. You will get many more sessions on a 12 compared to a 7. _________________ moondog |

Today was typical - a range of kite sizes I observed from 7 to 13.5m - very wide range. The 7m was an anomaly - riding a hydrofoil surfboard. Mostly 9-12m range. Wind range 13-19mph avg 16.
So, one guys calls it a 12m day while another calls it a 9m day - take your pick! |

How are the waves down there? waist to shoulder high or head high? How many days?
I was there once for a week and it was bad lake chop 3 on 4 off. No waves. |

I was there once for a week and it was bad lake chop 3 on 4 off. No waves. | I'd say maybe waist high to shoulder high. LV is not known for it's wave sailing. But like Moondog said when we get the El Norte usually every 3-4 weeks then we do get some decent wave action for 2-3 days. Otherwise, we're riding ocean swell and chop. The general consensus is that LB has better swell and LV has better wind. |
