According to wind reports, looks like its been light....
I am going there Monday for 2 weeks and need to decide which 2 kites to bring....

12 and 10, or 10 and 7.......

I'm thinkin 12 and 10 to make sure i get to ride alot....

The forecast looks light, but from past years experience, its not very accurate.... Stoked and ready to go!!!!!

Congrats on your upcoming trip!

I've been here in LV since Nov 3rd and weigh 170 lbs. Given your choice of kites, I'd personally go with the 7/10 combo.

I have a 2 kite quiver here myself - 8 and 11m Rebels - and I'm very happy with those sizes! I should also mention that I've only been riding a 133cm TT. I've mostly used the 8m.

One on-site observation - on any given day - it's "normal" to see at least a 4 or 5 meter range of kites being used at any one time (by guys) - sometimes even a 6 meter range. Commonly, it's 7m - 12m. Or 9m - 13/14m.

Guess I'd recommend making your choice based on whether you prefer being over-powered or under-powered if the perfect size is not available.

As I've recommended on this board previously, if only bringing one kite to LV, make it a 9m - two kites then 8 and 11/12m. Obviously depends on your weight and skill level and whether you're riding TT or surfboard.

As always, YMMV.

Bring them all or you'll for sure need the one you left home.

My wife and I just returned from 9 days in LV and LB.....
I used the 12 and she used the 10. One day she used the 8 (she weighs 110).
In 5 trips to LV I've never used anything smaller than a 10. I weigh 185.
By far the most used kite is a 12m.

I get 2 kites in my carry on and can get a 6m rpm in my laptop bag ( minus the laptop) then your board bag is lighter and they won't toss it around as much.

how much do you weigh, what board do you like to ride and how powered up? i just had off 2 days on a 7m powered up with nice swell and waves and happy as could be to not have to ride a 10m.

Can't you put the 7m in one of those vacuum bags where you suck out all the air and end up with a tiny bag?

Weird - I'm in the campground and IMO the most used kites here are 7,8,9,10. Sure, there are some 12-14m days but not that many. Obviously depends on rider's weight, skill level and board (TT or surfboard).

Thanks unbob..... I vacuum packed my 12 and 7 together into one backpack for my carry on on the plane....the vacuum bags i have leak, but it squished it long enough to get into the bag....

I am now at max weight for everything....

Cant wait to get there and slip into super relax mode..

If anyone needs a ride from cabo to las barilles let me know as i drive back and forth 3-4 times per week...

The other days I drive to todos santos for surfing... Have not yet hit good wind there yet, but always take my kites just in case...

I must be crazy but I dont see how one could fly on a 7 in La Ventana with the winds down there unless you weigh 100 lbs. . How can the winds require anything less than a 9 down there?? If you flew a 7 down there, dont come up here for windy conditions because you will be on the beach watching unless you have a 3 meter kite. Up here being the Gorge etc!!

FYI - today was 3rd consecutive day of mostly 7m kites on the water! All weights and all board types. 7m gets used a lot here! 7/9m or 8/11m is a great LV combo!

don't come to the gorge, it will blow the color off your kites, bla bla bla...
170 lbs been on a 7m for the last 3 days in nice swell and waves, wind has been 24-26 gusts to 29. Los Barriles seems just fine on a 7m.

bla bla bla- 24-26 knots and gusts to 29 . huh on a 7 what u do when the wind really blows over 30+ = sitting on the beach. the wind today seems like 12 meter wind if you are heavy and 9 if you are light like I am not:-)

Anyway have a great time and I will come prepared in a month for good wind!!
