Wow. Just saw this string. Glad you're OK! No witnesses as to what happened? I'm not sure I'd self launch if it was blowing that strong Smile

Just found the time to read all 5 pages. Wow & so stoked this guy is Okay to a point. I've seen a few self-launches go wrong. I also was hurt doing a self launch. Broken ribs, neck injury - kite looped a few times & flew like superman & was gored in the ribs by my spreader bar whilst faceplant. No fun. I haven't attempted one since. I want to - but still wigged out.

Responders...so Pinky Boarder is a fairly newer person here in the Gorge kite community & we couldn't be luckier that she moved here. She saw first hand how emergency crews responded to Theo & how absolutely inept we are as a kite community (not saying the paramedicss - us kiters). She & a Fireman(can't remember his name) put on a clinic to teach us what to do. There are so many scenerios. Such as making sure that all kite lines are free of the body before pushing the "oh shit" button as you could strangle, maim of inflict more injury to downed kiter. That may sound dumb to not know that -but adrenaline & panick can take over. We discussed just cutting the lines. I was disapponted that only a handful of people showed up for the clinic. I am hoping that when she puts on another one this spring - that more will attend. I learned so much & am grateful for her time & skills. Thanks again, Pinky.

And, heal up YouKai...see you out there next spring.
