Fake. digital video editing at its finest.

They just airbrushed the straps out.

Remember the book " I wish I had Duck feet" ?

.... I wish I had suction cup feet !

They have got velcro booties, thats just not possible......Someone needs to get those guys up here this summer to put on a strapless collective
.

Velcro on the toe...or something. From 1:50 to close can you really be falling away from the board heading upwind and have it follow you? Heels come up but....but that is just insane. Great vid.

Oh no. Is this turning into yet another strapless (i.e. your preferred riding style) is better than everything else thread? It definitely has its place and is really cool, but I disagree that it is "THE direction" the sport is taking. There are many cool aspects/styles to kiting. Doing a strapless backroll is definitely sweet, but I don't see it taking over the sport or causing everyone to decide that twin tips or strapped surfboards are history.

Megaloop handlepasses are pretty damn cool, too, but that doesn't mean everyone is going to quit riding strapless surfboards to do them.

The point of my post was to draw attention to how ridiculous it sounds to call out strapless riding as the end all be all riding style that some claim it to be.

The riding in the video is totally insane, and I would love to be able to boost huge strapless airs like that, but the reality is, I won't. There is no way in hell I will get the amount of time on the water it takes to get that good at strapless riding, with a full time job, two very active kids, and my wife to take up 99% of my time.

That said, I have MORE FUN riding strapped, and I still don't get the point of telling people to "lose the straps". The conclusion I have come to, is that strapless riders fancy themselves as superior to all other riders. Do I go around telling people to
"get some straps on that board". No, of course I don't, whatever riding style you prefer is fine, please don't try to make me conform to what you think is cool.

I saw a guy riding in waves yesterday on a twin-tip with boots. I have no idea how this is enjoyable, but whatever floats his boat. I certainly was not going to ride up to him and say "dude, lose the boots and the twin tip", like a strapless rider did to me the day before. I'm sure he feels so much better about himself that he is riding strapless, and trying to pressure me into his cool way of riding. Me, I just don't get it.

I hope my buddy doesn't read this.

My friend was on a VIRGIN outing to Ocean Beach, SF w/ his TT & Boots. I warned him and recommended the straps but he stubbornly wanted to ride the boots. Ocean Beach has HEAVY surf and is not the spot. My buddy did ok but now and then i would see him get washed out on the inside w the boots dragging behind him holding his head underwater. I thought he was going to drown, and the facial expressions were priceless.

He was all good but I told him after "Lose the boots, or I'm not kiting with you here again". He respectfully lost the boots for all our benefit.

As for strapless.... way cooler and more fun in the surf, but spend more time trolling for whitey. I like straps at places I lose my board alot and strapless on clean single set surf breaks, hands down.

I like to ride boots in the waves cause it was fun to hit them shits hard like a ramp. That's why you do it.

Otherwise, most people ride twins in the waves cause they've not learned to jibe. Surfboard is way more fun though, I just learned how to rock one in Maui over the winter so I won't be riding boots anymore if the waves are good.

As too what's better for everyday riders? Who cares... Only thing I care about is how the pros are setting the example. I wanna be stoked out when I watch videos of a pro ride, not let down.

Boots are cool for SPI or 2 foot knee slappers but once it goes overhead it's not so cool.

For me the best adrenaline rush is when you pull down the line of a monster set and carve it out stalling out the kite so then you are on pure surf ride down the face then down-looping the bottom turn for another run at it.

I do like my twin in the surf for hitting ramps and throwing vertical stompers... but not it the big stuff.

2 feet, that's all? You're weak! Just kidding. You're preaching to the choir BTW. I just spent the whole winter doing that on a daily basis... Strapless and unhooked. Razz
