First off, I think this is a great shot. Does it represent the most progressive or competitive parts of kiteboarding? No. Is it supposed to? I don't really think so. I think it's supposed to promote tourism in Hood River. Kiteboarding is only one small part of that.

Second, everyone needs to remember that ALL aspects of kiteboarding are important to everybody. We're all in a symbiotic relationship with each other: wakestyle, megaloopers and danglers. How so? Who provides the funds that keep this sport going? By and large it's the danglers. They make up the vast majority. Sometimes that's not as easy to see here in the Gorge. We're lucky in that some of the best riders in the world call this home. The ratio of experts to kooks is probably higher here than anywhere else. The fact remains though, that manufacturers can sponsor competitions and invest in R&D because of all the kites they sell to the dangler majority. So how does the majority benefit from the progressive few? Inspiration and progression in the sport and equipment. If nobody was pushing the envelope we'd all still be riding 2006 crossbows and Links. Why innovate if nobody is pushing past what current equipment can do? And seriously, how cool is it to ride with these guys who make impossible tricks look easy? I'd start naming them, but there isn't room here!

I ride by the slider park and think "Fucking ay!" Watching Adam and Eric and Amery and the rest at Stevenson going nuts just pumps the hell out of my stoke. Seeing all you guys kill it helps me push myself just a little bit harder. And when you stop pushing it, you get old. So everyone benefits. Every aspect of this sport is cool. None of it is "rollerblading." But yeah, some parts are way cooler. That's great, you guys help inspire the rest of us. But don't forget, not everyone can do what you do. If they could, what you do wouldn't be impressive.

What a great sport. I mean, riding with the guys--and gals--around here is like playing basketball with the Trailblazers! How cool is that? What other sport can you say that about?

Not to take away from your efforts or accomplishments but, umm... I think you need a reality check dude... please... just Google "Kiteboard Terrain Park".. the slider project was hardly the first, won't be the last, and certainly isn't "the only one in the world".

In regards to this interesting debate that really went off the rails from the original intention of the photographer/videographer, its all about context... from both the perspective of the viewer and what's being filmed. Riding strapless, or with bindings and even (sorry Forrest!) sliders can be found all over the world. In order to be able to tell that someone was riding with bindings or strapless, you'd have to be so zoomed in that the shot could be taken anywhere. Even hitting the slider isn't saying a thing about what makes kiting in the Gorge unique. To be fair, even the first photo doesn't quite hit the mark either. But the second photo sure does.. who hasn't been out on the water on a great summer day and turned towards the Oregon side to see that view of Mt. Hood? Its the only place in the world that looks like that, and a great way to see it is from a kiteboard on the Columbia River. I think we can all relate to that shot on some level, and therefore, every kiter is represented.

Speaking of which, come on guys.. this is a professional photographer/videographer taking an interest in representing KITEBOARDING in the Gorge... at least its not SUP or another windsurfing shot! To give him so much grief and flak about a 2 second shot is ridiculous. Lets be grateful that at least the sport IS getting embraced & represented, (not banned, like at some beaches in Florida), and that someone actually cared enough to hire a pro to get some current shots/footage.

Please inform me where these other sliders are at that are left out every day and hittable on a daily basis?? I would really like to know as you seem to have infinite knowledge of everything kiteboarding.

You should have googled it yourself to see what popped up before making such an idiotic statement.

while i was in Qld there was alot of talk of one on the gold coast that was out all the time... but that is a bit different because they dont wear 4xl shirts or call it a "terrain park" and it most certainly came after the slider project. Its clearly Ian that knows everything about kiting... good for you. just as a disclaimer here, i absolutely love what the Slider Project is doing. pushes kiting and makes it more fun for everyone. look forward to helping forrest and the guys with it this year

You know, putting your head up your ass and keeping there doesn't mean that the sun didn't come out today... put in your own research, and quit whining about every little thing that doesn't fit your definition of kiteboarding.

No, I'm definitely right on this being the only terrain park. Re-locking.
