Is there ever any danger of shock-loading those locking biners? Loaded across the gate, they're only worth 7 kilo-newtons (1575lbs of force). You wouldn't need to fall very far from some kind of maneuver gone wrong to generate that. I'm just curious why there isn't a second one, opposite and opposed. They only weigh like 100 grams.

It is a single point of failure, but I've never heard of a PG biner failing. There are some pretty stringent shock loading tests they have to pass.

PG biners are pretty spendy/beefy. The rating on PG biners is typically higher than 7KN (look at the rating on the one in the horror pic below).

I did see an announcement through USHPA about a biner recall once, but what's more likely is people not closing their biners properly !

This would be a NIGHTMARE vision for any pilot:

Ah, okay, so that biner is 10kn across the gate. That's pretty good. Most locking climbing biners are 7.

Awesome Fly!

That dune soaring-low altitude stuff looks really fun to me. Plus all the japanese glass ball floats you must score after a big onshore!

Wow...lot's of drift wood up there already!

You are an ideal candidate for learning how to fly the coastal dunes. If you see a SW or W wind day forecast at 10-15mph, give me a call. Especially if you have an OSR to share Smile
