A few opinions about this subject eh ! Regardless it seems we all want the same good feeling from the sport .
I'm 51 and I love this sport , 4yrs , but not easy here where conditions are poor . I have looped my flysurfer on snow not leaving the ground myself , light wind , I'm not ready for the real thing yet ,even though my medical bills and wages will be paid ! I still feel that I push it sometimes it's whatever . That feeling you get after visualizing and then trying to do it ........ When something clicks ...Oh Ya !
Blah blah
Have fun

LULZ... You have more to worry about financially than I do, believe that.

The paycheck's in the bank, sweetie, the bank.

"thats funny because I pay for my own doc bills and im not a whimp!!"

Holly, you may not be a wimp (correct spelling) but I see that grill of yours and would bet a paycheck too that busting it up on that testosterone laden kiting you do would not affect you in the least.

Was just asking about some safe and smart ways to progress to another level. Didn't realize my question would turn this into a pissing match. Sorry I asked.

Yes, to a degree that I am happy. Mostly for smoother landings on big boosts and for transition. Still not throwing mega-loops like Ruben......and Holly of course. Plus, I have not been hurt. Hmmmm......

Kitelooping requires pain but if you want to learn the feel and control of the kiteloop before your headbashing fall start out looping it just after you land then pull it sooner and sooner till your in the air during the whole loop (Then!! brag to your friends).

And another tip don't do too many in one day, continuous crashes gets painful so just pull a few big ones and then take a break for a while and think about it.

I Loop a 9 meter T3 and as slow as it is to start looping I also feel that due to the grunt it's much more powerful in the loop. What do you guys think?

I think kiteloops are fun, but not worth the tax on your body. I leave them for the kids cause I like my knees untwisted.

In my opinion looping a slow kite can be a bit of a death wish. In order to really do a big loop and be able to ride away you need to have a kite that is able to recover in time and come above your head, at this point you can either loop the kite the opposite way to slow you down or let the kite come above your head, leave it there and hope for the best. Usually C-kites and more C-shaped hybrids are able to loop quick and get the kite above your head quicker when you need it. Either way kite loops can be a bit of a risk to your body, I learned this the hard way as I was sidelined 2 months of summer with a sprained ankle after landing a little hot in choppy water.

sure you can. Try to learn the moves apart though.

it had been mentioned earlier...get the feel for looping by just sending the kite around from apex...no roll.

then once you get the feel for how your kite delivers power...start putting the moves together. I think big kite less power is good in the beginning..the smaller the kite, the later your loops should be initiated (for a painless result).

In general, start to pull the kite up relatively slowly...once you are half way though your rotation, pull hard to loop the kite...it'll stretch you you a little. Make sure you do not bail. btw. throw your head to rotate...do not use the board...gives you more control.

If you feel you will over rotate open up a little...if you think you'll under rotate...hunch in a little...

Great thread. Thanks for asking the question, space. We're not all hard core enough to throw new moves without thinking them through first, and trying to figure out how to start small and minimize injury.

Agreed!! We cant all be as cool as that. Everyone who enjoys this sport knows there is a certain amount of risk involved. However, to support this great habit, some of us still have to show up to work on Monday. I think thats all space was trying to get at. How to improve some skills and still make it in when the weekend is over....

Thumb's Up Well said. Monday morning. That's what pays for the kite gear!

I have yet to have a serious injury kiting, but that doesnt go to say that sometimes you eat ish extra hard and it hurts. There is no way around falling learning a new trick, but there are way to fall to avoid getting too injured.

Sorry Dylan, this discussion is for the people that are old enough to buy beer. Of course you haven't hurt yourself. Your bones haven't even fully calcified yet.

But anyways, yeah, I'm not saying boost 30feet, crank the bar and hope for the best but its fun to push yourself and progress. if you don't try it, how will you know if you like it. landing a new trick or trying something new is a very rewarding experience.

...

You nailed it. Great discussion allowing multiple opinions to surface without anyone getting too bent out of shape and having it turn into a flame war. nwkite is a great forum for no bullshit discussions! Thanks.
