LOL yeah, getting injured is cool! That's how people know you're dedicated to the sport!!!

I'll bet a paycheck that they people with those responses aren't paying their own medical bills. Grow up, kiddies.

All I know that is if your not pushing yourself because your scared your going to get hurt, then you probably have a considerable amount of lawn mowing in your future. I'm not saying go crazy or nothing but lets face it, sometimes pulling the trigger is a little scary.

If they were easy, everyone would be doing them. I suggest you get waterproof MP3 player and load up some rock out tunes.

Kiteloops hurt too much, plus most people need their bodies intact. I would not do them, too scary.

Oh, I never said they were easy, I started trying them last season fully expecting to get owned every time. I'm just a little sensitive to the "if you're not getting hurt you're not trying" mentality as it has ruined a couple of my friends' lives this year snowboarding.

Kiteloops are great, and usually you can do them without injury, but to me, it's a carnival ride for the people who aren't 200 lbs. with bad knees like me. Doesn't mean I can't do them, it was one of the first tricks I learned.

If you are wanting to progress in a thrilling way, but want to avoid injury, why not just go for some unhooked tricks? Or why not just try unhooking and riding down wind from the bridge on your surfboard or twin tip... You'll be amazed at how fun, thrilling, and liberating it is... And the worst thing that will happen is you'll loose your bar, skip across the water, and have to relaunch/drag back to your board.

There are other options out there!

Too many people forget that this is the most important piece of "gear" you can own.

A friend of a friend moved to Tahoe last winter to pursue "the shred life" sans medical. Two torn ACLs, a torn meniscus and a rotator cuff later he can barely walk or use his arm, will never ride again, lost his job waiting tables, and is trying to convince his parents to send him money for a plane ticket home. But it's cool cuz he was, like, totally pushing himself, brah.Rolling Eyes

i do believe there is a difference between stupidity and "pushing it". One thing is to push it to the next level, another thing to try pushing it to the next level without health insurance, stupid.

Also, you can push yourself without getting hurt, that is the joy of the water, but if you're pushing yourself trying to do a KGB, front mode, slim chance, mega loop, whatever tricks that are waayy past your ability, stupidity. You see where i'm going with this? there is a difference between being stupid and pushing it to the next level.

you need to be able to clearly visualize what you're doing in your head before you do it. I'd have to say i was definately pushing my kite loops to a new height on Sunday (at fight club), and i did get smacked into the water a couple of times REALLY REALLY hard. My neck and back were both extremely stiff and sore for 2 days, but it's not like it was past my ability. I was able to land those KL's with board pointed downwind and the kite way overhead to soften the landings. But on a couple of my last attempts, I lost footing after landing, due to the speed, and so I ended up smacking the water.

Knowing your ability and pushing it to the next level is one thing, not knowing your ability and trying to push it beyond that, is stupid. And doing the latter, wihtout health insurance, IDIOTIC.

sorry to hear about your friend Kid, but it isn't hte first time i've heard a story about somebody who thinks they are all but invincible and they one day, they get a fucking reality check.

I have yet to have a serious injury kiting, but that doesnt go to say that sometimes you eat ish extra hard and it hurts. There is no way around falling learning a new trick, but there are way to fall to avoid getting too injured.

Sorry Dylan, this discussion is for the people that are old enough to buy beer. Of course you haven't hurt yourself. Your bones haven't even fully calcified yet.

But anyways, yeah, I'm not saying boost 30feet, crank the bar and hope for the best but its fun to push yourself and progress. if you don't try it, how will you know if you like it. landing a new trick or trying something new is a very rewarding experience.

I thought i was too old to be hitting rails and all that nonsense but I tell you what, the winch opened my eyes to a whole new world of fun. I hope that some people that even have a passing interest in this kind of thing are planning to come out to "Forestpalooza" on the 11th. You will be surprised how easy it is to slide a rail and how minimal the risks are. We will have the small kicker out as well and that shit is FUN!!

forest makes the best point about the board. i didn't do this the first few times for my loops and really paid for it. make sure you are pointing downwind before you pull the bar back.

when i do them, i take the back hand and move it all the way back on the bar until i am touching the bar ends. also, make sure you stay sheeted in. a kite that is not all the way in when looping will be slower and can stall, this will only hurt you on the landing.

i tend to lean back a little bit, pivoting my torso back and feet forward when i turn the board down wind. it just helps me balance a little while in the air.

good luck.

if you are going to pull a KL for the very first time and it is really windy and gusty, it is advisable that you don't wear a wetsuit.

added insurance would be an impact vest and a helmet.
and try to not lock your knees when landing.
good luck with your progression.
