If you ever start to feel good about the human race and think to yourself, you know what, maybe we can start to live a little more sustainably..watch the science channel program on Dubai.

Those people are seriously off the chain. Indoor snowskiing (Dubai is surrounded by desert), the largest most expensive buildings in the world, and lots and lots of cars. The typical two person family owns 4 cars. They interviewed one new car dealer and he said they sell around 1,000 a month. (There are 9 dealerships in dubai). At least most of them are european cars that are made in some of the most energy efficient factories in the world. The average dubai household uses 20,000 kilowatthours of electricity a year (that is just a tad less than double what the average american uses).

Kind of mind boggling really. ok, tirade officially over. I'm working for the rest of the day.

Would be curious to understand why dredging would not be good (assuming of course that dredging would occur in off season and not during the summer)? If the spoils of the dredging were added to the sandbar couldn't that result in increase in size or height of the spit?

Along the same lines there will likely be dredging of the White Salmon after the dam is taken out this fall; Imagine if all that sand was added to the sand bar...

I can't wait till they breach the dam!!! That is going to be sooo cool. Thousads of tons of sediment for sure. Do they have a firm date yet?

Hopefully those tons of sediment will result in a new launch site on the WA side; which by the way has existing access trail under the RR tracks.

After dam breaching, sediment accumulations with an average depth of approximately 5 feet
would occur in the Columbia River downstream from mouth of the White Salmon River. This
area would extend into the Columbia River channel about 1,500 feet and downstream for about
one mile, and cover about 100 acres (PacifiCorp 2005). The Bonneville Pool is about 4,000 feet
wide at this location and sediment depth would be expected to be zero in the navigation channel.
