				| Mon May 19, 08 9:07 am    Seperate Sandbar Season Pass! | |
				|
 |
				| We should have a separate Sandbar pass for those of us who do not park at the Event Site. It's ridiculous to have to pay $50 to park in a rock parking lot for a season. I believe there should be a $20 season pass for the Sandbar only.
I'm going to give public comment about this at the Port meeting tomorrow. Anyone care to attend? We need at least 5 people, and it would be nice if you'd speak about this topic. You must show up early to sign up to speak.

				| Amen, brother! Thanks for bringing this up. It's about time we got treated as equals. _________________

				| Less about equality here, more about saving $30. I've been reading over meeting minutes and it just hasn't even been discussed by public comment.
One thing I have found is that the profit from money paid to park at either site is set aside for improvements. This is good! Though, I'm unclear if it's further separated between the two sites.

I think that it's fair that you should get to choose how you pay if you choose to only park at the Spit. I think the GGWA would support this as it would further reduce parking lot load at the Event Site and encourage kiters to stick to the Sandbar.

				| Forrest, That is a good idea. It doesn't make sense to have to pay for both areas. _________________

				| For sure I dont think we should have to pay at all. I mean what are we paying for?
We organize the cleanup days, we take care of all the crap down there.

All the port has ever done is ruined the nice parking/chilling area we used to have and replace it with Shinny cheap gravel.

 Port is seriously Toby.

If the Event site season pass is 10x the daily fee the same rule should apply to the Spit season pass. That's what I meant by equality.

Does anyone know what motivated the fee in the first place? I remember the days when it used to be free. If the fee was intended for improvement then how much money do they need before they do some real improvements? And, if they're not planning on improving further then shouldn't they stop charging us? Any info on the spending and their goals would be appreciated.

Forrest - I agree with you. But I am hoping that there will still be an option to purchase a pass for both places. Some of us lazy bums don't like to walk so far when the water levels are low. I don't feel like walking and actually getting some exercise

				| The current $50 pass is valid for both places. That probably won't change in case you're lazy. _________________

				| The numbers are available I believe. The Port doesn't publish everything unless requested. One way to request this information is to email the Port. | |

				| The Port is, at least partially, private.. which translates to.. they have no legal responsibility to share any of their $ #'s or budget...
Ever try to figure out where all of the bridge $$ goes?? Never will.. because they don't have to share. Without a legal mandate, they have no benefit in being transparent... because 'good will' is something they obviously aren't too worried about.

I don't think $50 would be that bad if they would share some of it back for improvements.. which I think might be an easier argument than a cheaper rate.

I used to get pissed about it.. poach.. go to Lyle, stevenson, Rufus.. etc but it would ruin my day just thinking about it.

At least now with my $50 paid.. I can confidently drive in and out of either lot without having to stop and deal with anyone.. or have any chance to get pissed about it. I like Event Site access... such as yesterday.. pulled in just for the view to see if it was coming up.. saved having to drive all the way out to the spit... and lets the windsurfers get comfortable seeing the Liquid Force van.. so they're not so afraid when they finally cross the boat basin and come over to the dark side... kiting at the spit,

				| For those of you dual (or multi) kiter families... If you pay $50 for combined event/site parking pass, you can get additional passes for family members' vehicles for only $20. Makes it a bit more reasonable... $70 for two vehicles, cheaper still for 3+ (not sure if there is a limit)... but you need to go to the Port office with your receipt from the $50 pass to pick up additional ones for $20. And, yes, last year they checked drivers license and vehicle registration to make sure at same address as the first. | |

				| I don't mind the $50, but I am 45, duel income, and can afford not to mind it too. Having said that, I do think The Port has improvements in mind for The Spit, and is open to our suggestions. I guess I have found The Port to be pretty open to the CGKA, and find $50 to be a reasonable price to pay.
 Just my 5000 cents...

				| I think that a separate spit pass is a great idea, especially if it's substantially less than the $50 dual pass. I sure don't the walk knowing that I'm saving money by doing it. | |

				| I agree with Forrest that we ALL NEED to go to this meeting, buut, but it's supposed to be windy, Tuesday. How long is the meeting? Do we have time to session Lyle under the full moon. I'm only slightly joking - I get off work at 5 and will be at the meeting soon after.
For those of you who are having trouble finding 1000 E. Port Marina DR. I think it's just west of the toll bridge, where the boat ramp is.
