be super aggresive into the turn, set your edge hard - about at the midpoint with front foot and back foot facing forward - just magically slide the back to the front and the front to the back.

In the beginning go wide and downwind - then work on tightening up the turn and keeping speed through the full carve.

fun

I think the easiest / most fun is to learn to do shuv-its. I did those before I could even jybe a surfboard.

Just do a little hop while spinning the board with your feet 180 degrees (think DJ scratching a record.) The key is a nice front pad so that its easy to "catch" the board with your front foot. When I went from wax to pads I started nailing them much more of the time. Flat water also makes it worlds easier.

The nice thing with shuv-its is you don't lose any ground at all.

I have completed exactly one shove-it after about 15 attempts. You don't have to puch and spin the board much at all. the first time I tried the board spun around about 4 times before I touched down on it.

my skim jibes consist of slowing down, turning, falling, grabing board and re-launching. It's much harder than jibing a S.B.

Sorry I forgot the kite bit, basically its exactly as if you were doing a transition and trying to stay upwind on a TT. Slow down, bring your kite towards noon, right when its at noon you will get a little float, that's when you hop and shuv-it. When you land send your kite down into the new direction and ride away.

You can also do them riding along... But I think it’s a bit harder since you can't cheat with the kite as much, plus at some point you will be riding the tail of the board forward.

Takes a lot of falling to get it, and even once you really start getting them you will still miss every now and then, especially in crappy wind or chop.... but its fun and looks pretty cool IMO.

I agree with PKH....I still eat shit on 90% of my jibes (and I try them a lot). Just learned the trick to the shuv-it a few weeks ago (as described above) and aftrer 2-3 sessions of practice I can nail 90% of em. Much cooler looking than the jibe as well. Def don't give up on the jibe though if you can jibe a skim you can jibe anything.

How about a shuvit jibe:

was getting this last night.

high speed carve - load your rear foot - half way through turn pop board into the air (even a few inches works) , jump, twist to switch feet, stick it.

all sorts of variations

I like the high speed carves because you work the kite same as you would surfing a wave on a surfboard.

I think certain tricks are only possible if you have the build of an 11 year old girl. Razz

And you have a "job" that lets you kite 25 days in a row. ( a fear of riding twin tips also helps) Laughing Laughing Laughing

Knew I shouldn't let that slide..

Didn't see you hitting the slider on your twin-tip saturday biatch - though it was much more entertaining on the skim.

Do you usually spin the board so the nose goes upwind or downwind or both?

It it easy if you spin the nose upwind. Once you carve hard upwind with the kite at 12:00 the board will already be half way there. All you need to do is kick it the extra 90 dergees or so.

In Gman's defense after learning to jibe a skim, jibing Phil's mom came very easily.

yep, what they said...

kite higher=easier to initiate shuv-it
padz=easier to stick

you can get creative when spining the board....upwind, downwind, sometimes toeside jibe too...I seem to make the same kick motion going either way

try em' all and one way will become easier than the others...

next: the powered floaty-ollie in flat-water/no chop!!! now that is impressive!!
