the GGames would only be worth the money if there was some doped out punk legend to hurl shit at ya after paying your $20. maybe next year they could get GWAR to play a venue, and you could have your feces fix also.....

Given your arrival time, you appear to have harvested 84'-Iron-Maiden-quality-wind. My later on-water arrival yielded Josh Groban ringing in my ears.
In other news, a correction/update on G.G. pricing information:
Special one night camping deals: $90/night.
Verbatim from G.G. below;
"Should you prefer a spot only on Friday or Saturday the cost is $90 per night, per space. The reason for this is the impact on services and to insure that Athletes needing to stay multiple nights have priority. If you arrive mid-week all spots are $50.00 per night, per space."
(Perhaps TBR Productions could take-over the marketing of G.G.'s winter games.) "Become a happy camper like the Gorge Gamer below."

I think I know what GG Allin would have to say about those prices. In his immortal words from his influential album Freaks, Faggots, Drunks and Junkies - "My friends are all dead. My friends are all dying. My friends, we're going to hell. But they're not cryin'. They're not cryin'. They're just dying."

TBR, I am not sure the post of this thread. You ahve made it pretty clear you are agaisnt the gorge games, so why would you care if they were charging $3000 a night for camping? You aren't going to camp there anyway. To get a pass for everyhitng for 4 days $35 is not a hgue deal.
Yes, this is not a non-profit event. Someone is trying to make some money, big surprise. The exceptions to these rules are either events put on by kiters for kiters, which still cost money btw.
I would think of the gorge games as soemthing similar to the x-games but on a much smaller scale. DO you think you could just show up at the x games and get in or free? Pretty much everything of this type is for a profit. I know I personally enjoy seeing all these super good riders out in hood river killing it, and would gladly pony up the $35 to watch them ride,a nd maybe learn a few things. Of course again if you choose to volunteer then you don't have to pay anything.

$35 for the whole event isn't a big deal.
X-Games entrance is free, btw.

That's pretty cool. I would imagine ESPN makes a a buck or two from advertising though

EXACTLY.
Don't the vendors and advertisers and entrance fees make enough for the organizers? It's one thing to charge money to attend an event at a stadium or some venue that costs allot of money to rent. It's quite another to charge someone $20 to walk along a trail to see some local guys MTB down. What, they have to put up some construction fence and signs and have staff to organize things... that is costing $1,000s of dollars?
I think the point of TB post about camping prices was to point out how outrageous a $90 fee is to pitch a tent.
I would have liked to check it out but it seems like it is going to be quite the zoo, and an expensive one at that. Yeah, $35 for four days, not that big a deal but multiply that by 4 for the family and you just paid $140 for the right to stand on the beach/trail/bridge, whatever.

It would be quite interesting to know how much if any money is made from the advertising at these games. ESPN obviously makes millions from TV and Ads, I would bet most of the money from these games would come from admission.
Either way, its all just conjecture. No one knows, so either participate or don't. ASort of like going to a movie theatre $4 soday that cost 5 cents. If you don't like it you don't buy it.

One PKRA event can cost almost $100K, not including internal costs which can be quite substantial as well! Imagine the cost of putting on an event as large scale as the Gorge Games!

| if this is a for profit venture, isn't it weird to be asking all these volunteers to do so much work?

I think it would be, except volunteers are getting free access to the games and food passes and alike.
Special thanks to Janet for negoiating extras for the volunteers!

Maybe they should make a gorge games x-box game... LOL
Its not that big a deal to me, just kind of bummed to find out I would have to pay when I orginally planned to cart the family around to watch an event or two. Everyone needs to make money somehow. In the grand scheme of things, making money organizing adventure sports competitions is a positive thing.
