Sauvie Island common misconceptions:

Misconception#1
It is spelled Sauvies

False. This implies a reference to multiple geographic locations, each by the name of Sauvie.

Misconception#2
It is spelled Sauvie's

False. This implies that the island is property of Sauvie. "Laurent Sauvie was a French Canadian employee of the Hudson Bay Company.
Sauvie oversaw dairy farms on the island for the Hudson Bay Company and supplied goods for Fort Vancouver." - sauvieisland.org
The island was named after him; it therefore does not imply ownership by either him or any of his kin.

Misconception#3
"Its only 15 minutes form work!"
False, it takes at least 15 minutes to drive from the Sauvie Island bridge to the north end of Reeder Beach. Google Maps

"If scappoose is above 10, then sauvie will deliver"

False: take lots of beer just in case.

Good question... I'm heading out though either way! Yesterday was alright.

Todays Forecast (7/11/08) :
USAirNet (Scappoose):
11AM = 10MPH N (Wind Direction 010)
2PM = 11MPH NE (Wind Direction 010)
5PM = 13MPH N (Wind Direction 350)
8PM = 10MPH NW (Wind Direction 330)

iKitesurf:
NE 4-8 in the afternoon

Misconception #6- If the forecast for Tuesday and Wednesday are identical and people are shredding the shit out of the place on Tuesday but you stay home because you value your marriage but ultimately can sleep at night knowing that it is going to be off the hook on Wednesday and you spend the whole day looking at pictures of people boosting from tuesday and wondering which kite your going to fly, the 9 or the 11, you can be sure that if you leave work earlier and diss the kids, it will go off.

The only part of that misconception is the "must" part. I've seen plenty of scorching hotties on the nude beach. That's usually the case mid-week when its less busy.

It's pretty much the same as any other beach in terms of the hottie ratio. Lots of fat people, and a few hotties.

Fremont Bridge says 8-12 right now:

http://www.tripcheck.com/popups/WSDetails.asp?SCANStation=68005

USA Air Net is predicting NNE11 at 2pm, NNW13 at 5pm and NW10 at 8pm.

http://usairnet.com/cgi-bin/launch/code.cgi?model=eta&state=OR&sta=KSPB

Actuals from iKitesurf for Scappoose and Sauvies (rotten sensor) look less strong, but it's still early.

I'd say it looks good for rideable sessions. If you are looking for big boosts, its not likely but since all forecasts are just educated crapshoots really, you won't know until too late if you don't go.

Like PDXMB always sez "what's the worst that could happen?". A nice day at the river and a lite session?

Better send a report every half hour. It's been up and down a lot the last few days. Smile

Christiano left for the island about 15 minutes ago. I'm leaving now. Call cell phones for an on-site report in about an hour.
