I bet they're coming out with a new "retro kite", made with authentic retro fabric!

Caution is trading in old kites! Great idea, hopefully some of the other manufacurers will follow thier lead!

I have 3 old kites that I am hesitant to re-sell to anyone because they are pre 2003 era kites, now I have a place to send them where I can get some green back and not have them end up in a landfill. Sounds like a winner!

At the demo day I checked out the Caution Mayhem and took it for a flight. To me it seemed to be the fastest 7M I flew that day! I liked the bar and the safety, everything was simple and clean. I also liked the short bridle on the kite. I am considering buying a Mayhem quiver and expecting to make a decision next week.

That's way rad. Honestly, what to do with old kites was something I was concerned about when I got into kiting last summer. I mean, you've got somethin that is incredibly material intensive and becomes obsolete at an incredible pace, not unlike the computer industry. Luckily kites don't have so many nasty chemicals!

ORLY?

Production of the various nylons manufactured today involves many steps of chemical reactions. Chlorinated compounds, such as dichlorobutene, are needed in some of these steps.

The chemical formula for dichlorobutene is C4H6Cl2. Note that the "di" and "chloro" prefixes in this name refer to "two" "chlorine" atoms. The stem of the name, butene, refers to a simple hydro-carbon compound, consisting of a chain of four carbon atoms bonded to hydrogen atoms.

2, 4-Dichlorobutene

Dichlorobutene is a good example of an organic molecule. All organic molecules contain carbon atoms. The "backbone" of every organic molecule is a string of carbon atoms bonded to hydrogen atoms. In chlorinated organic compounds, like dichlorobutene, chlorine atoms substitute for hydrogen atoms. Thus, the structure of butene can be drawn exactly like the diagram for 2,4-diochlorobutene above, with hydrogen atoms in place of the two chlorine atoms.

I love this forum, you never get away with radical claims, there is always somebody who knows the subject and will set you straight Wink

Recycling those things (though I wonder how they actually do it) is better than throwing them away or torching them on end-of-season bonfires ...or is it?

I think it's a great idea!!! Way to go Caution!

There was a article in a KB mag of a company that recycles old kites and makes various items out of them. Anything older than 04' are just getting dangerous unless you have already ridden them.

Hammocks, bags, windbreakers, hats, sun shades...

Who knows how to sew??? I have some kites and ideas....Lets make some prototypes.!!
I always up for a venture!

In the 80's it was parachute pants, now Kite Trousers! I like it, the next fasion fad for kiters and non-kiters alike! Use laces instead of zippers this time.

Ummm, I was referring to all the crap that is used in the manufacturing of circuit boards and semiconductors... Hydroflouric acid, carcinogenic photoresist, arsenic in the solder, and a whole other slew of stuff that'll kill you if you look at it wrong. Trust me, I've worked in the semiconductor industry and producing nylon is teddybears and rainbows compared to computer chips.

on the caution website it says that old caution kites can be used to apply $400 to a new caution kite! and non-caution used can be redeemed for 300 towards a new caution kite.
that's sick!

so a new mayheim 11 meter 1000 bucks after i send in a used caution that i will recieve 400 off retail and I almost gave it away a few time this season..... hmmm

or send in some old slingys for 300 off.

thats a discount for sure. any mayhiem user testimonials out there?

I prefer c kites for simplicity , no bridles( keep it simple stupid, mentality left from climbing anchor building)

thier c kites are not included nor do they look amazing to me .... personaly the really deep Cs always seem to need 5 lines to act rite and they don't seem to turn as fast.

Will slingy answer this promotion with something simular??

I checked out the website. Nice to see what they are doing.
Not only do you recieve a substantial discount, you remove your old kite from possible sale to someone who wants to enter the sport on a minimal budget.
This is one of the better ways to get rid of your old, maybe not too safe kite.

http://cautionkites.com/

I also saw that New Wind is now a local Gorge retailer for Caution Kites.

They should take old windsurf gear.
Then I might be able to make my dad get rid of his once and for all.

It would also be sweet to do this with surfboards.
Turn in a couple of sailboards for one that is kiteable.
Old sailboards take up so much room.

PostMon Jul 07, 08 10:16 pm    Caution Mayhems 7M and 11M Reply with quote

Traded in a couple old kites and recieved my 7M and 11M Caution Mayhems on Thursday of last week. Flew the 11M at Rufus on last Friday in the gusty wind and had a good session! Did my first unhooked riding with them (accidentally), it was good!

I was amazed at how well the kite handled the gusts with the short bar thow!

If you see me on them and want to try out the kite let me know. If your a solid rider then take one for a demo session, let me know what you think.
