it's really easy to get the 07/08 fuels to relaunch like a SLE kite by pulling on one of the rear lines while the kite is directly downwind of you, LE down. not sure how easy it is to do that in deep water where you cannot touch.

you can also fly the fuels with a Rev bar in 4 line mode, and then you safety line is attached to one of the LE lines of the kite. i prefer to use hte 5th line because it is so much easier to relaunch with a 5th line if the wind is light. And the wave grenade lets you detach the 5th in case of bow tie. spike, you could just keep your TD2's for riding in the ocean and ride the fuels in the River, if you're that worried about bow ties out in the waves.

thats a waste from production .......

it was an attempt to make it a beginner friendly kite to compete with bows.

it says right on the info with the kites ....... "For expert level rider demanding high performance"........

not for dingle danglers in the" take a shit position" on the waves

i'm pretty sure when ruben was at his 4th year kiting out in the Gorge he had 5th lines on his fuels; it seems like the 5th line could have helped him progress faster than without it. So say what you want regi, but if i can't make everyone of my handle passes, i'd much rather have my 5th line hold my kite in the middle of the LE than have the safety line attached to a front or back line which can cause the kite too loop quite a bit in high winds. maybe when i can do kite loop front mobes and land them with rubens consitency i'll take off my 5th line Shocked

There will be two bars.

One similar to the Rev bar, so you will have 4 line below the bar safety. CSS "Center Safety System". That will come stock with the Fuel.

The other will be bar only "pro bar". It won't come stock with the Fuel. Just a limited amount for the riders who think they can handle it...

It all comes together and Its trick! Wink

I thought the 5th line was great for relaunching when the kite ended up trailing edge down in the water. For that I think the Fuel relaunches better than the REV is super light wind. There seems to be a point where the bow bridle and pulley provide just enough resistance to keep it on the water when the kite is up on one wingtip waiting to relaunch. Eventually it goes up, but the reach forward and yank on the 5th to get it to relaunch always worked for me.

Also thought the wave grenade worked well. I used it every time I rolled my 06 Fuels and was able to reset it. When released the line would immediately roll off the kite and then I could reach out and fish it back to the middle of the center lines and reset it. Worked good for me....

There are other reasons for the 5th line on the Fuels. I've been flying them for three years with and without the 5th line. True, turning performance is improved w/4 lines.

The kite holds a better shape and more predictable with the 5th line however. It is a bit slower that is all (really just a bit). Without the 5th line, the kite will jump and bag around. Not in a bad way.

Also with the 5th line, you can actually flatten the kite out a bit. Nice for gusty days on the waves. Allows you to park the kite a little better.

I have two bars right now: one w/4 line and one w/5. I like the 4 line for steady wind and perfect waves. 5 lines for big sloppy surf and/or gusty wind. For safety and peace of mind. These are '07 bars, I need to replace them both because the stainless steel insert is loose causing it to tear on the kite side and fray the crap out of the trim line.
