You gotta love that he rides tail first to get a little bite with the nose to compensate for the lack of fins.

Respect!

They clipped a bunch of the shots where he was way deep in the tube. How hard you think he ate it on those? I was surprised he kept charging after that. I guess as they say "fantasy is the only limitation"...or whatever it is they said on that Volvo comp winner website.

First reaction: I am not worthy, repent! repent!

Second reaction: Some of those boards look skinny and with a lot of nose, surf with no fins?

Third reaction: I have been more pitted on River Swell.

Zing! Wink

Actually the skim bottom turn at 0:56 makes me want to suck my thumb and hide under my desk.

I still have much to learn from you Jedi Master.

Was that in your dreams?

Yeah, some of those shots he's riding a surfboard (probably a standard one). Others he's definitely on some sort of skim and riding it backwards at times.

Was thinking of - what did TBR call it - Crushtanic Beating - you see those guys come up after hitting the reef and its super nasty

- Yeah some of the sequences look like a surfboard, but others Shocked Shocked

My favorite part was the sky launch at ~ 1:10. Looked really fun and put him out of harms way.
That was Teahupoo size I would ride.

Haha!
Really, if there was only wind on the "Mighty" Thompson we could have a chance to feel that on the river.

that's "Beaker" he is the ruler of all things skim. (Like #13 on the Zambezi river)
Generally I think Skimin is a really lame way to hurt yourself. But he just makes it look like a badass way to reallly wreck yourself. He and his bro grew up at the Wedge in So-cal, and they definitely are used to the beatings in the sand, but the reef, ouch.

All this skim talk has got me thinking.
Is there going to be another SKC in the Gorge ever?

I'll do it if our boards are fast enough to ride the swell. Only problem is if there's swell there's wind and then we should all be kiting.

Is that the strapless event Dave organized last year? He's stoked about the event, but is pretty busy with Gorge games and Royal and what not. He mentioned maybe trying to have one in Brazil later in the year.

Skim board is fast enough! and as demonstrated by skimboard gods capable of legit bottom turns.

You guys can ride your slog sticks and I will ride the skim and we can see who can go the furthest Very Happy

I think legitimate top/bottom turns are going to tough (impossible) on river swell... but who cares!

Surfing with a kite is like riding your bike with training wheels, you got to take em off and really go. Very Happy Plus who knows maybe we can set some kind of guiness book record for longest ride on river swell (or invent the record ourselves.)

Did anyone else talk to Nick about his downwinder on the SUP from Viento? sounded pretty fun.

Damn, that's a lot of quotes, but I'm too lazy to sort through them. Anyway, it's on fool! Let's see who gets the longest ride. We can pit your skimboard against my Quad fin surfboard or something like that. I predict the skimboard will be harder to ride as far. Might even take a couple fins off the surfboard to reduce drag. Might be busy this weekend with the slider setup, but we'll see.
