Wish I had a good photo or two to start it off, but its only solo kiting here in Japan. How about some greatest hits crash shots to get everyone stoked on trying their new est tricks.

Im up in Aomori-ken, which is the far north end of Japan`s big island. In the mountains. Snow country. Nobody but old fishermen and sometimes a few surfers to kite with up here, but there are kiters down in the Tokyo/Narita area. If you are serious about getting on the water during a layover, go to Chiba. Its close to Narita and its a good area for surfing and kiting. Im sure you can find some stuff on the internet about it, but let me know if you want some more info.
Ill be in here until the end of July- which will make it 2 years - then I am moving back to Hood River!!!
It will be nice to kite with friends again. Having the entire beach and all the waves to myself is nice, but the self-launch, solo-riding, self-land sessions are just not as fun as sharing the stoke with the homies.

can you just ride on that beach that you fly over on the approach to the narita runway? every time i have flown there i've seen clean breaking waves on the sandy beach, and wind. last time i was there it was a huge storm, breaking swell everywhere, and we aborted the landing 10ft off the ground. wind was offshore that day; not sure the normal direction.

i guess there must be something wrong with it, but it looks nice from above.

Thanks 97031! Chiba, huh? I'm wondering how I'd get there. Driving there looks pretty scary for a Gaijing! (spelling?)

Gabe, I've thought about that beach too. The main problem is getting there! I finally found a place that will rent me a car, but I need to get an international drivers license first. I've talked to some of the guys who have ridden bikes to the beach, but they don't ride, so aren't good judges... 97031, do you know anything about that beach? It looks less difficult to drive too...

Nak
Check out Fujisawa, take the train south from Tokyo, about an hour to Shin-Yokohama, there is a local train to Fujisawa, Japanese seaside resort, we stayed in a hotel across the main street from the beach. Full of surfers and Windsurfers, this was before kiting hit Japan. Kamakura might be another spot, about another half hour south by local train

Thanks for that! Sounds like too long though.... My layovers are almost never long. Basically, I'd have from like 2 in the afternoon through that evening. So, it's gotta be something I can get to and back from in a few hours. We layover pretty near Narita Airport...
