Yes, I kited the Camas/Washougal spot with a couple others. It was very good in the channel between the island, but if you get in the wind shadow downwind on the Washington side the wind is very fluky. If you kite there stay upwind. I did not last very long because my feet got cold. Sad Although, I have new booties now and I'm ready to go again tomorrow. There is another spot that looks even better. Might have to give it a try tommorow.

Of course, only if Rooster is unridable. Like today with smoke all the way across the river.

Very Happy

Hey really glad to hear that you found somewhere that the wind filled in. Which lot did you park in? The one with the new Lewis and Clark monument or further east or west? Did you hike thru the trees to the beach and then east to where the channel between Reed island and the main beach ends? Looks RR is still nukin' so i'll head out to Camas again for another look. I think i'd get myself in all sorts of trouble if I tried that Troutdale - PDX downwinder Embarassed

i went there this morning. i wallked along the gravel path and then down where its marked cottonwood point on your map. It was the windiest i have ever tried to kite in. I was using a 7m but the gusts were outside my control level. Still a lot mellower spot than RR. I'll be going back, maybe tomorrow if the wind is crazy again. The water is very shallow and no stumps or pilings as far as i could tell. The barge channel is way over on OR side of Reed island so seems like a relatively safe spot for crazy wind conditions.

here is more info to help. Thanks Chris! Very Happy

For all you hard core riders out there (I figure ridin in mid Nov. is pretty hard core) - I'll reviel my secret E wind spot. You may have seen me out there -and many of you have passed me on your downwinders from D-point to RR. Secret E spot is east of RR lauch proper @ 2-3 miles. Water depth is knee to waist deep for a mile or more out, and remains shallow all the way to RR (2 or so miles downwind). Bottom is all sand - an there is very little or no current d/t water depth. Wind seems a little less than RR proper, and can be very consistent. Launch can be a little tricky, like D- point - but it is a sandy/grassy/rocky point depending on water depth and launch in knee deep water. It makes a nice mini downwinder to RR, and I have even hiked back up to launch. I lived in coastal NC - and this can be BETTER than Hatteras ( no deep holes/ crowds/ jellyfish). Mid -way out (1/2 mile) is a very shallow spot for resting when ridin hard. To get there = Take the exit after RR - follow the off ramp to the right and park in the field just off to the right ( plenty of parking for even 10- 15 cars). It is a fairly short hike to the water. Take sidewalk over bridge and take the path right down to the water. No RR trax or crossing 84 required. Hope to see you there and up on the mountain -Chris

pauls, no wonder you were having fun holding down in the gusts... I'd be totally screwed, even on my 7m! Surprised
