For me having lived with both truck and SUV and currently driving a SUV I would say go with a light 4 door truck like a Tacoma or Frontier with a canopy. They get decent gas milage for a truck, are indestructible, cheap to fix + nothing beats the ability to toss your sandy wet gear in the back. Ever left your wet gear in your car a hot day for hours? Peeee-to-the-yeeeew. Plus no steamy windows. Four door so you can haul your friends and gear on downwinders. Seats that flip up in the back are good for changing room duty. Having a good canopy or tono-cover is nice for locking your precious gear in with a with an ill tempered dog when you're out on the water.

Anyone want to by an SUV? Wink

My wife was thinking a Toyota Previa Van, you can get them in AWD or 2WD, they get decent gass milage and you can sleep in one. Maybe make it into to a mini gorge mobile.

Not sure if anyone imports them into the US. They are pretty popular up here in Vancouver. I posted some pics on my blog if anyone wants to see more. There is also a youtube video I embedded of them doin' some off-roading with them.

I second the sprinter van, live in it down by the river.
22 mpg diesel, I am waiting for the AWD versions to be released in the US.

Outside Vans seems to be doing some nice fresh conversions.

Their builder is Van Specialties in Lake Oswego.

The Blue Power rig with your jetski inside.

And the Power Hauler

Crew Van is bare bones, just add a cooler and some camping gear.

I like Hien's rig but they must wear out quickly. Given the direction we are heading, if I had the funds my ultimate ride would be a VW Passat wagon TDI converted to VEG OIL towing one of these
