Tue May 06, 08 12:46 am Kit Tests... |
|
|
Hi Everyone,
You will be pleased to know that we have now databased all of the IKSURFMAG test reports since we started the magazine back in 2006. We have always kept the back issues online, but to find the test you wanted was always a bit labour intensive. There is now a link at the top of our page which is cleverly titled Kit Tests. Follow the link and you will find a page that looks similar to the one posted below. Here you can browse by brand, year, or kit type or do a search for a particular bit of kit.
This is a small snapshot of how it looks:
You can click the image above to be taken straight to the page...
Once you find the bit of kit you are after you can click the link and it will open the corresponding page in the magazine, couldn't be simpler...
Issue 8 is still live and if you haven't checked it out yet you can here:
I hope you all find that useful!
Cheers

It ought to be called kit-boarding, we seem to need an awful lot of kit to do it! _________________ Let's go kite. |

You're absolutely right about that... I forgot how much crap my dad had to haul with him just to get some rides... _________________ Let's go kite. |

Hi guys,
Sorry about the translation, yes "kit" over hear means kites boards gear everything. Maybe we should look at changing the name to something more international. Equipment is a pain to fit on the header tags, gear sounds a bit low key...
Any ideas.
Hope you like the new feature anyway!
Cheers

I believe the word "gear" over there refers to drugs and heroin in particular. Is that accurate? _________________ Let's go kite. |

Spot on, it does refer to an all many of narcotics...
Tests and a conflict of interest, depends on the magazine, after 5 years writing test reports for various mags i have always done my best to keep my integrity. Most important lesson i ever learned. If something is really bad we tell the manufacturer and give them the opportunity to provide a solution (rigging, tuning etc) If not and we still think it is bad then we simply don't run the test and no more is said. We never bow to manufacturer pressure and say something is good when it isn't. And we always point out the good and the bad. Luckily most equipment these days is pretty darn good, i haven't flown a bad kite in 2008 yet, apart from a Takoon that was rigged wrong from China. Once rigged correctly with manufacturer recommended line lengths it was actually rather good. Some kit out there is better than others at certain things, and that is where an un biased review can help.
None of this of course beats actually getting the kite or board and trying it yourself... I always say read the reviews, talk to the riders on the beach (not the pro ones) and have a demo session and make your own decision.
All that said i read some magazine reviews and just laugh, "we like the colours", "the kite is really nice", shit like that doesn't help anyone. Our last test reports were 600 words each and seriously in depth complete with video reviews...
Peace
