I'm all badass sitting in my office, may be a different story when the alarm rings at 6.
rooster for beginers? Sure why not, that's where I learned...I have such fond memories of learning at Rooster rock in the fall with my 2002 10m Fuel.
In the late summer and fall there is a much much larger beach that makes RR better for beginners. The wind is very strong though and can be pretty gusty as well.

depends on the wind...
last week with 35-40mph wind it was fun as hell, but not very ideal for beginners, guess it depends on the size kite you have.... |

Columbia River forecast issued 4/21/2008 at 7:00 AM by meteorologist Kate Looney
East 18-22 Tuesday, West 20-25 Wednesday, West 22-26 Thursday.
Little change in extended model trends this morning with easterlies expected on Tuesday ahead of a deepening low pressure area at the coast. Gradients reverse back westerly as this low lifts back northward towards Washington midweek, which should open up a few days of 20 plus winds returning to the Eastern Gorge.
Tuesday:
Western Gorge sites should see east wind in the 18-22 range, strongest in the morning. Central and Eastern Gorge sites should be easterly but light. Coastal sites should see SE to southerly wind in the 22-26 range, strongest in the morning. Small SW swell with wind waves at 7-10 feet.
Wednesday:
Gorge gradients switch to westerly in the afternoon as this system moves east of the region. Central Gorge sites should see west wind 18-22 with higher gusts for a short period Wednesday afternoon. Eastern Gorge sites should be west 20-24 with higher gusts late in the day. Gusty west wind in the 16-20 range with showers in the Western Gorge. Coastal sites should be SW 18-22 in the morning, decreasing in the afternoon. SW swell 9-11 feet.
Thursday:
Coastal winds remain lighter with westerlies going a little stronger through the Gorge. Central Gorge sites west 19-23 but gusty. Eastern Gorge sites west 22-26 in the afternoon and steadier than the Central Gorge sites. Western Gorge west 15-19 and gusty. Coastal sites NW 10-14 with clouds. West swell 6 feet. |

Come on dudes, use some common sense. . .RR sucks for beginners right now, especially when there is no beach, and the water is still hypo., super walnut sack cold. Throw in the gusty winds, and current and wind going in the same direction and it's a newbie's recipe for a kitemare . . . IMO RR sucks for learning UNLESS it is in late summer, the water is low and as warm as it gets and you get one of those days when there are not large, if any, variances with the wind. |

| If it's light enough winds, RR is good for beginners. There's lots of shallow water, and that's nice, because you can walk in from 200ft out. Just stay out of the main river, and DO NOT go out if you're over powered. And, only if you have a really nice dry/wet suit. The water is freezing, you still need booties. |

| im a beginner and ive probly been out 20-25 times times last saturday apr 12 was my best day so far and also first of the season it was nice to have a witness of me cutting upwind also some one to watch in case something goes wrong, i think if your unsure if you should go out you maybe shouldnt |
