There is a big billboard on the way back to Portand. Anyone else here against putting a casino in the Gorge?
I just sent in my electronic comment, the bold underline part is the part I personalized. the rest of it is the form letter from the website. Its easy if you want to take 5 minutes. I'm sure the powers that be will carefully read my comment and ponder great thoughts.
I am a resident Oregon and a frequent visitor to the Columbia Gorge. The Gorge is THE main reason I moved to Oregon 5 years ago. I am strongly against the casino project in Cascade Locks.
As you know, the Gorge is recognized as a national scenic area. I doubt it will be quite as scenic with a 90,000-square-foot casino and a 26,000 square-foot convention center. Plans also call for a 241-room hotel, spa, daycare facility, restaurants, and retail shops.
This complex expects three million visitors per year, and will accommodate their cars with three parking facilities (two surface lots and a multi-level garage) and a freeway off ramp.
This hardly seems appropriate for a "National Scenic Area." An on-reservation alternative location for the casino seems much more attractive.
Visitors come to the Gorge from throughout Oregon and the Pacific Northwest. It would be a mistake to replace the Gorge's natural beauty with an unnatural concrete complex. |

Actually the total square footage of the casino project has been upped to 600,000 sq ft, up from its original total of 70,000 sq ft when the casino was first proposed.
Send in those comments, you have til May 15th to do so. |

| For those who have not seen the proposed site, I would recommend checking it out. It is a beautiful, undeveloped area just east of Cascade Locks proper, used mostly by fishermen. Esther and I often picnic there at a nice grassy clearing in the trees atop a 60ft rocky face overlooking the water and the gorge. PERFECT picnic spot after a day of kiting, and a couple of nice cliff jumps too . I hope lack of forethought and vision does not ruin this wonderful place, as it often does, when people only see $$$. |

Where did you come from? Maybe you should of stayed where you came from, don't want too many people here, or not anymore since you arrived?
Reservation property in Hood River is that better?
New to the area, and want no change, you should of seen it before windsports.
When was the last time you spent any money in Cascade Locks? I didn't think so
Seems like it will bring more visitors to the gorge and they will be able to enjoy it's beauty too.
Broughton, NAITO, CL Casino will all help the local economy and not destroy the gorge. You probably believe in the Global Warming hype also.
As far as un-Natural things in the gorge, there is nothing natural about your kite and your car, and you kiting and driving in the gorge. How about if kiting and driving is banned also.
The incremental confiscation of rights. |

Simply my opinion dude. I may not be daddy warbucks, but I support local business when I can, including Cascade Locks.
I hope anyone else who'd prefer not to have a casino in Cascade Locks takes the opportunity to speak up. |

"the previous message brought to you by the Bush Administration .....where Global warming is a myth-it's been proven to interfere with greed."(more hard science available at "we are knobs.com")
Casinos are great.....they are bastions of higher life experiences! I often ask myself "would I rather go to a casino.... or stick a hot poker in my eye?" Poker usually wins...................but it's close!

Well, that's nice. Kiteboarders don't like people who just mention them being all over the river and all of a sudden they have their own objections. You guys are stupid sheeple who might even believe in global warming as long as some government agency says it If you had brains you would maybe notice 20 feet of snow on Mt.Hood
and by the way it was snowing today (4-20-0 and this year they had snow in San Diego. This winter one of the coolest winters on record. Just listen to what you are told and please do NOT think. About the proposed casino. IT'S NOT YOUR FUCKING BUSINESS. |

The earth has been warming since the ice age, duh, and it cooled before then, that is why there was an ice age. Or did you not pay attention in history, my 11 year old at least knows this
To think that man has any influence over this great planet is very egotistical.
The Human being creates more green house gas "BS" than the typical car.
Do real research and show me how the increase in heating has accelerated in the last twenty years, you can't.
How many record snow falls does Mt Hood need to have?
Do not just repeat what some group with an adenda has to say, the stupidification of america has been occuring very slowly, but very effectively.
There may be shifting of the axys's of the earth as in a wobble that has an effect on the weather and causes cycles of heating and warming.
If you look back in time I think natural disasters like volcanos erupting and earthquakes have caused alot of the changes, how did we get 7 continents out of 1.
Show me and prove to me that there is an issue, you can't! It's all hype and aimed at control.
The other falsehood is that there is an actual shortage of oil. There is more oil than will ever be reported, and it is a by product of the extremely hot core of the planet, and for economics, supply vrs demand dictates cost, create implied shortage, drive price up, limit production drive price up.
Gas is 10 cents in iraq, been there done that. Diesel is 2 dollars in mexico, supreme is 3 dollars. A carrier has to refill every four days, only a million gallons.
Dig a little deeper. Use your brain, unlike you are expected.
Like I said in an earlier post, did you buy your gas in troutdale before heading to the gorge, or did you wait to spend 5-10 dollars more and buy it in the gorge? I know what I would do, what ever is cheapest!
If you do a cost benifit analysis and take personal opinion out of the picture, (and the fact that less than 5% of oregon lands are populated)
As for LOCALISM, where are you from? ashamed?
Born in california, moved to alaska when 5, back to cal, up to wash, the or.
I love and was raised in the outdoors, I respect nature as much as not more than any. But I don't buy into a bunch of BS.
Oh watch out tornadoes in the mid west, must be due to global warming. not just spring.

| I thought this was a kiteboarding web site. Personally I would like to see a casino in the gorge, and I won't argue with anyone about global warming over the internet, but what does any of this have to do with kiting? |

The use of the word "duh" completely validated your argument. We are now all smarter for reading your post. Thank you.

Hey NateDoggggggg(happy/),
the fact you are NOT an independent thinker doesn't mean we all are as well.
My advice- don't trust bullshit science and government information. Just look around. |
