and now the pimping of local spots.... coming to a launch near yours..
PODCAST #110:
Nelscott Reef is world renowned as a world-class big wave tow in spot when the conditions set up just right. It’s also home and close to many of Central Oregon’s prime flat water and wave spots.
Our specials guests this week are John Forse, organizer of the Nelscott Reef Tow In Classic, along with pro rider and instructor Jeff Kafka, who John has brought in as a consultant to help organize and run a legitimate kite contest. Jeff is also a big wave tow-in surfer who was the first kitesurfer to kite Maverick’s earlier this year as well as one of the top kite racers in North America. The contest will be held May 30 through June 1 and is open to 20 pros (invite only) and 20 amateurs who will compete in boarderX, wave riding and a 5-mile downwind race for a $5K purse (pros only) and trophies (amateurs). For complete info, see www.nelscottreef.com
Got a question for John or Jeff about what’s going down at the contest? Join the live podcast this Thursday and get your questions directly from the organizers.

-Time: 6p PST (California), 8pm Central (TX), 9pm GMT (FL)

ha
Had my left ear drilled today.
Wear your ear plugs kids.....it isn't worth the downtime.
And not so fun being the beach bitch picking up your friends and family while they do downwinders without you. |
How long are you out for Scott? Sounds awful.
Do you think a full 5mm hoodie is enough protection for your ears - I have trouble hearing jack with the hoodie on - can't imagine putting earplugs under.

like many
I've been enthusiastic about many hobbies
none quite as easy as kiting and as rewarding yet forgiving
The wind carries a mystic
It's very near magic
I can't see it but it's the softest landing possible
if I didn't think about it
I forget I have a kite
then it's like steering my handlebar though space

Ear drilling isn't too bad.
The first ear was way worse than the second only because the doctor had only done a few of them and wasn't as well versed.
If you go to santa cruz there are docs all over drilling ears.
But here it's not as common.
All is well.
I will be back in the water May 1st.
And best of all I can get back into surfing. I spent 20 years of my life on a surfboard and had to give it up until I had this surgery.
The duck diving was impossible the past couple of years due to the 90% closure in both ears. Got an ear infection every time I paddle surfed. So I only surfed 5 times all last year.
Bought a new surfboard last week---ready to get back on it---stoked.
