Fri Feb 15, 08 4:50 pm A few questions or suggestions on CGKA |
|
|
I am not trying to offend anyone and do appreciate any work done on behalf of kiting, but...
I admit I haven't spent any time with CGKA mostly because CGKA seems to be HRKA and I don't think I should have much opionion on a place I don't live or kite but a few times per year. I view myself as a visitor to the HR sandbar and respect it and the locals. Plus its a 30 minute drive to get invovled.
I'm glad there is a KA but as issues of the Gorge and access are growing, it seems that a true "CG" is needed.
So, like other regional districts, why not elect members to the Board of Directors who live in different physical regions? I suggest the BOD members be representatives from each of the following areas:
Eastern (East of Lyle),
Central (Viento to Lyle,
Western (Stevie to Viento)
Rooster Rock to Portland and west to the coast.
Thanks

Carol, You bring up a great point, and that is why the current BOD has recently appointed the following positions:
Stevenson Launch Project Manager - Mark Barnes
Lyle Klickitat Launch Project Manater - Forrest Rae
Slider Coordinator - Lloyd Nickson
We have been accused of being the "Sandbar Kiteboarding Association" on many occasions, but that is most likely due to the fact that the last two years we have had so much work to do on the Sandbar that we did not have the bandwidth to perform projects outside of Hood River. Now with the Sandbar under control, this year we plan broaden our horizon to implement projects and assist in routine maintenance at both Lyle and Stevenson. Your husband Tony can verify that Mark Barnes and I recently attended the Port of Stevenson's commissioner's meetng this Tuesday and kicked off a hopeful long and successful relationship like we now have with the Port of Hood River. The goodwill the kiteboarding community created last year with our cleanups and the ability to "self police" the no-fly zone we agreed upon with the windsurfers enabled us to now be able to kiteboard at the Eventsite 6 months of the year. We welcome Board Members from all locations - we have not turned anyone away - and we value your input! |

Hey NWkiters and CGKA,
I just want to let you know that I am offering my time and energy for all of the kiteboarding community as "events coordinator". I have no real ties to HR, the coast, Stevenson, Lyle, Sauvies or any other launch for that matter. My only ties to any launch is that I enjoy using any of then on any given day (I go where the wind is)
I am offering to coordinate the various events that are being planned for this season so that we can can work together as a kiteboarding community. I would hate to see an event have poor attendance just because there was a scheduling conflict.
I will not be the coordinator for each and every kiteboarding event in the NW. I will be offering to help out and get everyone on the same page, help with the various networks of supporters we have and generally deligate duties as needed to insure that we have fun and are safe.
Through the years I have met a ton of good folks who do a lot of great things for kiteboarding, my intention is to capitalize on this network of folks in order to make our NW kiteboarding events successful.
As most of my friends say, "Steve, you know everybody don't you?"
I guess they are right......in some form or another. The list gets bigger everytime I go kiting.
If I don't already know you and you see me out there, I hope that you all will introduce yourselves and step up to join me(us) in the fun this year.

Steve, nice steppin' up! That's going to be a key position because it's one that's in front of lots of people. You may want to clarify with the community that "events coordinator" does not actually run all the events, but rather coordinates scheduling, possibly a sharing of resources, and CGKA's involvement and support of an event.
What I would really like to see this year is CGKA taking advantage of the marketing and membership opportunities that present themselves at kiteboarding events for the organization. This has been a very missed opportunity in the past. However, I think this was mostly due to the fact that the CGKA didn't really know who it was or what it's voice was, and thus could not properly represent itself. I feel this will be an important part of that events coordinator position -- It's not until we, the CGKA, determine our purpose and goals, that we can then represent at events and rally interest.
I'm excited that you're doing this!

Hein,
I am a public employee in the Portland area. I do not work for any for-profit entities.
I do have lots of friends in the kiteboard industry. I believe that my network of friends pretty much spans the entire industry. They range from importers, distributors, manufacturers, designers, sales reps and shop owners and most importantly......the riders.
I have friends that are affiliated with almost every brand on the market. I do have my personal preference of gear I choose however I have no financial ties to anyone in the industry. Therefore, I have no commercial agenda.

To add to Hein's note... anyone with a personal agenda should probably opt out of the election. _________________ Cascade Kiteboarding

Tonia,
I DO have a personal agenda.
I want to have fun, be safe, meet new friends, be involved, make a difference, etc.
Those of you who know me know where I am coming from.
This is going to be a great season! There are a lot of great folks running for positions, I don't think there is any doubt in anyone on Jim's list.

Exactly Hein, well said. From CGKA's origin, our mission has been: "To preserve, protect and increase kiteboarding access in the the Columbia River Gorge". We are not a marketing group, and have not attempted to act like one. |

| I think the CGkA is on the right track and the folks running things and running for things are good people who will hold true to the mission statement. Thank you for quoting it. |
