This week's news in Longview:

"So much for swimming in the Ocean around here! Ocean Shores is on the north side of Gray's Harbor...just north of here."

OCEAN SHORES , WA
While the ocean vessel 'Dawn Raider' was commercial fishing for dogfish,
this Great White was hooked in the mouth but only resisted slightly for 15 minutes before it came up alongside the boat to have a look; long enough for one of the crew members to slip a rope a round it's tail !!! 'And that's when it the hit the fan!!.

The Shark took off towing the 42 foot fishing boat backwards through the water at about 7 Knots. Just like in JAWS, the boat was taking on water over the stern and the crew watched in horror as the shark would actually jump completely out of the water at times. This went on for an hour before the shark finally drowned.

She weighed in at 1035 L BS. It is suspected she followed a weak El Nino current into local waters in search of food. Although mid 60 degree water is considered ideal for these sharks, the larger ones can tolerate water in the low 50s.

Ocean Shores, Washington, is just an hour or so from Longview, Washington. Longview is north of Portland, 45 miles.
Normally we don't see these little fish up here. Wanna take a swim?

Seems kinda sad that they would kill such a beautiful animal.

Yes, I agree. The sharks are a very misunderstood creature. It’s too bad so many humans feel the need to kill what they are most afraid of… Rolling Eyes

Too bad for sure they killed such a specimen, what a fish. . .it was breeding size for sure. If one has to kill anything for sport or sustenance, they should put some thought into the breeding cycle of the animal and how long it takes for an animal to become mature enough to breed before it is killed. Sometimes it takes decades for a species to reach maturity enough to breed like whales and elephants.

Agreed!

How many years for a Sleestack to reach breeding age?

It's cool to think that big shit like that still roams the ocean.

Or at least it did, before some jackass had to lasso it's tail and drown it Crying or Very sad

i'm sure these rednecks will be real proud and have bragging rights for years to come that they 'caught' a huge shark when in reality all they did was lasso and push a throttle. as usual.

no wonder the sharks eat us if we keep doing stupid sh!t like this.

One cool thing about Great White Sharks - they are everywhere - even in the placid upper Sea of Cortez (thought you where safe in La Ventana did ya)- thats where they found this guy.
