blown two strokes aren't worth the hassle man. I'm a avid sledder and we don't mod out our motors no matter what. We put exast cans on them and change the suspention, but no internal motor work. Shit like that leaves people stranded, they are hard to start and they cost a shit load of money.

DONT BY A USED MOD SLED, if they were so great, the dude wouln't be selling it. |

Can be expensive if you go to a big sled shop. If you have a good mechanic that works on two strokes, you can score big!!
I have two good shops I would recommend. Both are top notch mech. and work for a fair price.
Mod sleds are awesome. (if they are buildt right) alot of guys think they know what is going on and cause more problems than they fix.
Ps replacing pistons and rings in a two stroke is easy.
Pps dumping the stock exhaust can is the first step. They are very heavy. going to a "fatty pipe" would be the next step. a light weight hood makes a ton of difference as well.
Oh yeah,
the general rule of thumb in sledding is:
$1000 per 1 lb of weight reduction. (Weight is key)
a looser rule:
$1000 per 10' of high marking your buddies! _________________ Cleverly disguised as an adult...

and don't forget to mention to those who may not know ,if you put a louder lighter pipe you must rejet the carbs, and while your there you may asa qwell put in some better reeds. And clutching is probably the most maintainence on a sled , overall they are reliable if you treat them well. |

I have always heard that triples don't have the snort out of the hole. Does anyone know if the 2000 and newer mtn max have this issue. |

Yes you are correct.
Its not the loudness that have to rejet for.. its the increased air flow. After all, a motor is nothing more than a airpump. anything that helps that makes power.
As for triples... they can have more snort out of the hole. Usually the triples are earlier motors and not as effecient as the twins have become. Piston port compaired to reed valve ect... The twins are in favor because of the weight issue. However if you want to get over 200 hp you need a triple. _________________ Cleverly disguised as an adult...

drove out today 45 minutes when we got there the rope broke the first pull on a 1600 mile 2001 sled for 4000.00 . good times least it didn't break the first time trying to come out of st. helens during a snowstorm... |

Yeah sh*t happens.... FYI you can put a strap on the primary clutch and pull start the sled. Not a big deal. You learn to improvise when in the back country! _________________ Cleverly disguised as an adult...

Yep, I learned this in the field about 2 hours deep in the Wyoming BC in college. It's amazing what you think of when you really need too. No big deal either, super easy. _________________ Shallow Dive Design, 2nd Wind Sports, Airush, Trident Sports |
