Mr. Bodangles

I knew a man Bodangles and he dangled for you in a worn out wetsuit
With silver hair, a ragged shirt and baggy pants, the old soft bootie shoe
He jumped so high, he jumped so high,
Then he lightly touched down

I met him in a cell in New Orleans, I was - down and out
He looked at me to be the eyes of age as he spoke right out
He talked of life, he talked of life, he laughed, slapped his leg a step

Mr. Bodangles, Mr. Bodangles
Mr. Bodangles, windance!

Please capitalize "dangler" when you're referring to The Dangler. Rolling Eyes

I'm really getting at the term dangler as it applies to the general kiting population. I thought the answer was D. but a friend thought C.

Definitely D, especially when one dangles higher than expected, loses the board, and continues to dangle the feet in a pedaling motion - as in "rolling down the windows" when skiing and catching more air than expected. Here's an example below. Razz

I would rather be a dangler than not have anything to dangle. Razz

Nice dangle pic Tonski - I did a few of those yesterday when I'd get overpowered in a transition on my skimboard and just get lifted clean off the board/water/etc. Pretty helpless feeling, but it made me laugh every time.

Very Happy

I think of a dangler as one of those kiters that flails and kicks and such when they jump...leading with their feet. it's just plain ugly in my opinion. More stylie to just stay put and do a solid grab than dangle.

A dangler is someone who keeps their kite high for wake style tricks and claims it.

There is only the idea that the kite is low or high when doing unhooked tricks. Someone who keeps their kite high, but does tricks where it should be low is a dangler but only if they're claiming it. Claiming it can be via picture or video promoting said person or product, or talking about it as legit.

An unhooked backroll with the kite at 11 is a dangle trick. The suspect is only guilty if they come back to the beach and say "Man, Did you see my unhooked backroll, it was sweeet!" It wasn't a legit backroll unless the kite was 45 degrees or below. 30 degrees is where it should be.

I would encourage everyone to strive for 45 degrees when you unhook. Start with it at 11 and work your way down. I leave you with an old video of me dangling some raleys back in 2007 when I was still trying to understand the legitimacy aspect of unhooking. I thought these raleys were legit and saw nothing wrong with them, but the kite is at 11 and my landings are delayed due to the lift of the kite.

The goal is to use the kite for speed, pop using your speed, and stomp the landing.

Because suspect can be found guilty if a picture or video is taken, you better keep it low when Rico shows up with his camera.

BTW, Based on my definition, you can see how the term "Dangler" wouldn't apply to 99% of kiters and isn't intended to draw a dividing line between us. There is a natural existing line between us and the industry... I'm just simply demanding more out of the pros that get paid to do this.

Forrest man - you really are the exception (in a number of ways). If thats what a dangler is - then its all good - however, if you look back at the posts man - not everyone sees a danger as you do. Many define a dangler sort of along the lines of C - whether its hooked in or not - if you boost and loft down - you are a dangler - some would include lenton in the definition of danglers.

Hehe, well, I thought it would be a good time to define it. You called me Forrest Christ! I see you're catching on.

BTW, what's with wrapping your text... At least wrap it at 72 characters. You're not being legit.

You don't have to scroll your eyes or neck! Thumb's Up

And Ruben's boosts are legit because he sends the kite to at least 45 degrees when he's 50ft up! Wink

Not 100% sure, but I don't think that's a loop on page 42 of the new KITEBOARDING mag. We need Lance to confirm. Gotta go look through the video from that day.
