I tuned my own Snow skis for many years, and the final touch is always a good wax job. Wax is hydrophobic; it repels water. A waxed ski not only glides easier, it turns from edge to edge with less resistance. When I head to the mountain, my skis have a perfect base, free of any nicks and freshly waxed.

I know kite boards are subject to far more abuse, sand and all. But would a smooth, freshly waxed base improve handling or drag? Would a kiteboard benefit from the structured base we desire on a snow ski? I have no idea. Anyone out there have any thoughts? Hein, have you ever played with anything like this?
