Ridgefield received a grant for a new kite launch! Some people think it could be used as a park too.

This looks like the best one. That said, I don't know how good it is. It looks pretty close to the river. https://www.wunderground.com/dashboard/pws/KORCOLUM12 As I recall, I think Ridgefield gets better wind than Sauvie, and gets it earlier.

I may be missing something in the article but that park won't actually sit on the Columbia. It's on Lake River, which is very narrow, basically a slough. You have the entire Ridgefield Wildlife Refuge between that park and the Columbia River.

Doh! You are correct! Why the hell are they building a park that can't be used as a kite launch? That seems like a terrible waste of money.

Yeah, I mean, I get why they want a nice little park there, but it would be even better to have a small road to a launch out on the Columbia. I guess that would get pretty expensive and probably require some political hoops to jump through. Oh well.

One spot that looks like it could have potential, though, is Willow Grove park, west of Longview, WA. I don't think I've heard it mentioned here, but there is plenty of open space to launch. It probably just doesn't get great wind. *shrug*

i used to kite willow grove in like 2010. should be kite ready right now. beach, parking lot, access. I do remember it being one of those places kinda like SI where the wind was not necessarily in line with forecasts, bigger kites, could get junky.

Also, at that point in time, there were some sketch kinda folks hanging around the park.

I pretty much just decided if i got skunked or lost a sesh to wonky wind a few times that it wasnt worth it and id just go to jones for the guarantee
