Well, if your turkey cooking experience this past weekend/holiday didn't go as planned and you want to try again, go out to Rooster Rock right now. No need to bring a turkey as you'll be the one getting seasoned by the liquid smoke out on the water.

Dang, it looks cold out there.

It's been weird this year, usually I know when RR is nuking because it's nuking at my house in outer NW just over the hill but in a direct line. I know it's about the pressure gradients and how they move around but it's seriously still out my window right now.

Not complaining, that wind is cold as a witches...

All you can eat. 4 straight days of gusts in the 70's.

McLovin: Thanks for posting those pictures. Where did you take shot #3 from? I believe that is Cape Horn?! And Wind Slither thanks for posting the wind graphs. Yep, "All you can eat" is the appropriate phase.

I wonder what the conditions were for Lewis and Clark (L &C) when they passed through Cape Horn and Rooster? If it was like the condition we have had for the past 4 days, then I suspect they took shelter.

I also suspect that it was probably foggy and cold as they charted the mouth of the Sandy River, but they missed the mouth of the Willamette. This makes me wonder about something else.

Once L&C made it to the mouth of the Columbia and the Pacific, did they survey and take survey notes on the way back to the east coast? I can't image them missing the mouth of the Willamette twice.
