Why not just a small plastic garbage can with some rocks in the bottom so it doesn't blow away with a garbage bag in it and a shovel next to it.
Then when some nice dog owner/kiter is waiting for the wind to come up he/she can go on poop patrol and clean up the beach of all dog poop.
Yes, they may have to pick up someone else's dog poo, but next time someone else will pick up their dogs poo.
I think the idea of leaving it to each individual owner to pick up their respective dogs poo with individual bags, would leave a lot of poo behind because if they are out kiting or otherwise don't happen to see their dog go, then it won't get picked up.
This will take cooperation among the kiter/dog owner community of course, but based on what I've read so far in this thread, most of the kiter/dog owners would be willing to make that sacrifice to improve relations with the kiter/non-dog owner community.
Just an idea. I'll be driving out from NY at the end of July with my two extremely friendly yellow labs. I will bring a garbage can and shovel and donate it to the CGKA for use at the spit. |

crasher,
100% correct. we had a huge dog issue in our neighborhood. 2 things resolved it
1) a dog station, which fosters awareness and makes it harder for someone to blow off doing the right thing
2) when picking up your pooh always make it a point to grab another... i try to be 100% when it comes getting my dog(s) pooh, but i know every now and again i miss one, i try to make up for this by grabbing someone else's.
not to sound preachy, but all dog owners down there need to do a better job and be more vigilant even if it means picking up after someone who is completely uninterested in doing the right thing. non dog owners have the right of way so to speak and do have the law on their side, we need to police ourselves so others dont. this will no alleviate the chasing issues but will go a long way toward good will on the sand bar or anywhere else. |

OK - as for my definition of "once in a while" - I have no idea. I wanted to open this up to get some more information. How often do people get bit? Once a season? Twice a season? Once every ten seasons? I don't know. Thats why I asked the question. If someone is a regular in the kiting community and can elaborate on this it would be greatly appreciated. It would really assist in having a rational discussion about dogs on the beach.

Or all could follow the rules and guidelines designed to support the wide diversity within our demographic evenhandedly....
Get a clue & leave fido at home or confine him to a leashmand pick up his poop
It's pretty simple. |
