Thu Mar 18, 21 2:05 pm(sorta) local kiter summits mount st helens
Yesterday turned out to be one of those most epic conditions where the weather lined up with great snow, blue skies and some solid mid to upper teen winds with a great group of wind enthusiasts. the plains of abraham was the perfect spot to hit and as an added bonus, we watched local kiter brad gordon ascend to the summit of the volcano by kite and skis. As for as I know, he is one of two kiters to accomplish this feat. Aaron Sales being the other kiter. Aaron did it a couple seasons back with a snowboard. This time it was achieved on skis. Aaron was there yesterday as well and did give it a good effort. Brad's ascent from the base (4500 ft) took about 90 minutes I think. We watched from the base but to be honest, you couldn't watch with the naked eye. the distance from where we were to where Brad was, was over one mile. I was fortunate to bring my camera up and use the telefoto lens to capture the summit. attached are some images from the event. Stoked for Brad, he's a super athlete and an all around good guy that knows the mountain and puts on a great snowkite adventure.
