I have been early spring and it was V cold at night and chilly water. Have been going mid September for many years ,warm water, nights fine . Thing is Sept. is the best time for me at home and I have seen the increase in TS's and Hurricanes there also. Anyone have the experience of the wind and swell July and August ? Thx . |

Trejo will recite this mantra again and again. You can get swell and wind in July and August, or you could get skunked on both. It's a roll of the dice. For sure south swells are less likely then, but I scored a massive south there on the 4th of July weekend this year, but that was because I decided to go there the day before I left, just based on that swell coming.
If you are planning for next year, you just need to pick a week and hope for the best. Otherwise, you need to wait unti a week prior to make your decision. That is challenging for most.
Prior to Surfline, I used to plan trips around September and October to try to score a south swell when we were there. Sometimes we scored, other times we didn't. We always brought a ton of beer and weed to keep us occupied in the event that there was no swell and enjoyed a great camping trip on the beach.
Now that we know when swells are coming, I try to "target" particular weekends or weeks that would work for my schedule, and go if there is swell, and delay if there is not. Being flexible is the key to get good conditions there. Otherwise, it's a shot in the dark.
As far as spring goes, yes, it can be very cold, but that doesn't bother me if there is wind and swell. And spring is almost always VERY windy. |

PSC is great and all, but if you lived back East wouldn't you just go to PR? I mean damn, that's a trip to potentially sit in the dirt and stare at pelicans. |
