Would anyone be willing to run out this week by Wed. 5/16 with a chainsaw to cut up one of the logs at the far NW corner that are in and out of the water depending on the level, to test out how long it takes to cut one up? I'd be happy to come help.

I think it would he helpful to know so that we can put out a request for number of chainsaws needed, as well as vehicles. I've been advised that sand and water can dull a blade pretty fast. If that's the case, lack of chainsaws could be a potential slow-up.

In addition, I've asked that at the meeting on Wed 5/16 the schools are having w/ the Port they ask if after we cut logs, we can set the pieces adrift in the river (if they float, that is).

I will not be available mid-week to loan a chainsaw, as I'm coming from Tacoma. My plan was to definately bring the files to keep the chains useable. And chaps, hearing/eye protection. In my job, we do a fair amount of pile buck work, and yes, the sand that is coated on the surface of these logs will play hell on chainsaws. It's a good thought to go down there and try out a saw before Sat. There will also be a minimal release to the environment of bar oil (no biggee). Hopefully there are no creosote treated timbers in this mess, as D.O.E. will scream if they see a release of the chips from creosote into the waterways.

Please anounce a meeting place for Saturday, Event Site?

I'll be out of town this weekend, otherwise I could bring a saw.

It would be a good idea to bring some shovels to clear out a space under the logs for the saws to cut through without hitting sand. And some toilet/floor scrub brushes to get the sand off the logs' surface where the saws will go through.
