the new mystic harness had a huge plastic chunk on the back. I am a fan of the smaller profile harnesses, so i have nothing good to say about it.
I actually use a dakine thermo form II windsurfing harness because it was the smallest profile harness i could find. Put a spreader bar pad on it, and frankly, it is the shit, doesn't ride up, ever, if the straps come a little loose, i cant really tell because of the spreader bar pad. It super flexible and easy to move around in, and the contoured padding inside locks it beneath my rib cage amazing like. I have an 07 impact vest and an 07 tabu and i like it better than either of those. Only problem is, i think i'll only get 1 more season out of it.

Have you taken it for a test spin?
I'm dumping my dakine pryo(?) for the fire starter
I luv the higher back support and the huge plastic chunk is a big part of it.
In terms of it's profile, only the back of the harness runs high.
The top of the sides are notched to allow freedom to move, so it actually has a small or narrow profile where it matters.
It's the best of both worlds in a harness.
Lots of support without the feeling of being "lock up" of a loss in range of motion.
different strokes for different folks

Elvis......
hhhmmmm, Firestarter or the warrior...
I just recently purchased the warrior and to be honest, it's sick...!
The best harness I ever used. My previous harness was the pyro..The Pyro is also a great harness, but the warrior feels a hell of a lot better for me...I was using it this last weekend - very, very comfortable...It has an additional strap below the belt - so it will never ride up...I give it a 2-thumbs way the hell up...I'm not sure of any local shops that crarry it...Thus, I bought mine online, Live2Kite...Call 'em and they will waive the shipping fee (12.00 bucks - anything helps).
The straps on the belt seem a little too long...May need to cut shorter. No where to really tuck 'em...The safety knife is positioned on the side of the harness....Over all, awesome harness. Comes with bar and pad...The bar doesn't pivot...
Elvis, I'll post some Pics of the warrior for you, later this evening...Something to give you a better idea of the "inside" core of the harness, the bar, and the pad....I'm not sure about the firestarter, but the warrior runs a little small...
Good luck dude.

Elvis, I have an '07 large (size) warrior (less than 34" waist)...I live in NE Portland, by NE 82nd and Fremont...If you reck'n it's your size, than feel free to "PM" me if you would like to meet after 3:30pm - maybe try and fit before you buy...
Trust me, it sucks not having a local shop that carries them...I always like to buy local if I can....Either way, I'll still post the pics later this evening...

I probably should have gone with a small in my Warrior, though the medium seems to work just fine (I have a 30-32" waist).

I'm actually talking about local shops...I don't like ordering online since sometimes, I'm not sure what I'm getting...
Hey, Kataku...so how do you rate your warrior so far....?

Love mine (doesn't ride up, shifts a little side to side though), but anything is better than my '02 Tabu... haha!

Here's my 2 cents after riding it for a month. I come from a Dakine Fusion so was used to the seat harness life style, but am digging the waist now. I've ripped out the spreader bar down system's buckle on my Firestarter and had it replaced a few days later by Live2kite. This might happen if you tighten the strap that holds the spreader bar down too tight and it sees too much force. I've used the replacement harness a few times and it hasn't broken so far, but longterm durability still remains to be tested (I'm not tightening the spreader down strap as tightly now just to be safe). Also, since I got the replacement harness I've been riding blind more and sometimes the spreader bar unhooks from its clip (if I'm riding blind to the right, same side as the clip). I try to tighten the shit out of the harness and most of the time it works fine, but still haven't gotten it down to zero occurrences. I might be on the small side for a Medium harness so maybe that's causing the problems, but I fall right in the 32-34" range. The unhooking incidents seem to decrease as I break the harness in and manage to tighten it more. After riding it for a while now (I've been out at least 3 times a week since I got it) I think the Firestarter is great in terms of back support and range of motion. Also, minimal riding up for a waist harness, and no digging into the ribs from the spreader bar. However, I might prefer a harness without any clips (Firestarter has one on the right side). You lose time on land, but get peace of mind on the water. At least the Mystic guys reversed the clip so it faces towards the body, which makes it easier to get into the spreader bar and harder for it to pop out. Also, be aware of the spreader down buckle and don't over tighten it.
