The thicker they are the less you can feel & they are harder to get into your board.

I like thin split toe booties (3 mill)

Here, here, I agree, it's what I use. Split big toe with the connection at the end. . . I don't know about RR 40 temps but its good for spring and summer coast conditions. Usually 1 1/2 hrs of straight riding before I need to come in and de-numb them. Alittle heat loss for performance gain.

True, true, I upgraded my 3 mill to 7 mill superfreaks - and they work great on the skim and surfboard - less fun on twintip - but you can deal with 2hrs in 40 degrees - trade offs.....

thanks!
i went with excel 3mm split toes. the sole is all one piece, so the toe is split, but not separate. Gorge Performance.
I usually just go barefoot, and have been good for an hour or so in the ocean...i'll try them out tomorrow....should be great!

I've got some 6.5 mil titanium boots. It's like your feet are in a Hot tub!
Downside is you gotta jack the bindings open a bit, but good for a swim.

i was out in my 5mm split toe booties on wednesday, and what little 40 degree water i got in my boots just stayed there and heated up nicely. Once i got off the water steam was coming out of my booties, i absolutely love them.

ZERO... No seriously, I hate booties, though it was pretty damn cold a few weeks back at the Event Site.

Yeah, excel 3mm split toe booties are awesome. They're way warmer than other 3mm booties. I was gonna get the 5mm ones but they were too hot. I used to have regular 5mm booties by ProMotion and these booties are probably just as warm, but I have better feel in them. I've been loving them at the Norcal coast. Have been easily riding 3 hours at Waddell the past month without any problems.

2/3 oneil split toe for me... plug for NSI Adjustable Foot Straps/Pads: booties used to really bug me until I got these. The toe ridge and arch support in the pads helps give you some feel back. Plus you can pull the strap tight as soon as your feet are in, nice and snug. Thumb's Up

nice and tight compared to my 3 year old ones !!
I am very hard on these booties and compared to others ,,there is no comparison
they stay tight and hold up well
Almost makes me want to try thier wetsuits
