Who ever you are Smile ??? I just missed seeing you drift launch at the west end of Rooster today making use of fishing downrigger clip. I've wondered about ways to do this especially on ripping slightly onshore easterlies with high water Please share your set up very curious - cheers Paul

I got this idea from Puget Sound kiters who use it off of bouys. I attached it to the far west piers since the line in front of the ranger station had a lot of willow bushes. I roll up my lines up above and clamp the fishing clip onto the bridle lines close to the leading edge (the pump attachment point or a few inches of line off of it might work too). The kite stays quiet and you can walk your lines back at your leisure. When you've checked them visually, you simply give the kite a pull and the clip releases it.

Water was about waist deep = 1 foot below crossbar on the pier dams. I went up to the sand island and did see that there is good sand to launch from on the channel beach (walkable from the east end parking). No beach yet straight North from the east end parking.

That sounds really helpful for launching in no-beach locations, as long as shallow enough to walk back. I have seen some people locally drift launch, but seems a little sketchy with potential for lines to snag, catching seaweed, etc. Seems this method would allow a notch extra control.

Assume you are attaching the kite leading edge down, facing into the wind?
Have you had any mishaps with it, with kite releasing early, etc?
Any words of wisdom on things to be careful of or to avoid?

Finally....if you want to do the kite community a big favour....record it next time you do it and post it on youtube! Could ether set up a gopro on the beach or get someone to video it on a phone. Would be great to see it....monkey see, monkey do.

Thanks for posting!
