yeah this place is nothing like maui...
I've talked to the local authorites (metro park employees) and they have no problem with us kiting there. on top of that, multnomah county harbor patrol headquarters resides about 500 feet from where we launch. one time ron needed a rescue and the airport sent their first response team out, but I had already rescued him with a jetski before they even showed up.
as for pics of airplanes in shots, you do understand they are quite a distance above since runway is inland a ways. we are kiting east winds here so when you have a problem, you're kite is going opposite direction towards the I-5 bridge.
as for doubling, yeah there were two of us that kited here all of last winter. now there's four. watch out it may go to five before the end of the season!
IMO I honestly don't understand the issues in maui, but maybe it's because there are more inexperienced kiters there that like to release their kites when overpowered. the PDX airport has legit foilers Laughing

KSS, Nice. I purchased the new slingshot foil with the graduated masts. So psyched.
See you in August, can not wait to get out there.

these foil guys are badass! torrential rains today and three of us out making the most of it. river so high the pilings were under water. current so strong it's blowing in the 20's and not a whitecap visible. great foiling today except we need to start wearing ski goggles for the pitter patter of the rain LOL

I was in the parking lot at the sandbar last summer & a guy w/CO plates was telling me that foiling in waves(he'd just come back from a coast trip) amplifies the thrill of riding waves x10? Maybe I haven't looked around enough through various forums but I haven't read much on foiling in waves or seen much for pics of others riding them there?

sick day yesterday at wintler. somewhat nice weather (considering it's March!)
we evaded the downpours before the rain took over the area.
