Mon May 11, 15 6:09 pm Gorge downwinder tomorrow |

So I hung out at the event site today, but it was pretty iffy. If anybody is around tomorrow I'm thinking about downwinding somewhere. I'm from Seattle so some local beta would be awesome!
Thanks! |

There's only a couple of stretches of river that are friendly for downwinders between Stevenson and Arlington.....
there's just not enough launch/landing sites to support downwinders.
The big bends in the river can play havoc with the wind on certain stretches.
Also - in the spring the winds tend to be fickle and it's like Russian Roulette finding steady wind on a 7 mile stretch of river. It could be blowing 25 at Viento and 25 at the Event Site but there could be giant holes in between that are 10-15.
Downwinders are best in the summer when the thermals are more consistent and the consequences of having to bail/self rescue are not so serious in the warmer water and weather.
Viento to the Event site is the most popular - but there won't be enough wind until Friday afternoon. Last edited by ldhr on Wed May 13, 15 9:55 am; edited 1 time in total |
