It's a good thread. Motorized assistance seems to be a valid part of boardsports (I'm a firm believer that kiting is the ultimate evolution of boardsports, but I can be biased on this forum right?).

In reading this thread, I was reminded of the Billabong Odyessy vid. I watched it again because I remembered some talk of "futurists". I found it ironic that the Bbong guys were talking about Rush Randel as a futurist... he was windsurfing ?? Rolling Eyes ??... meanwhile these guys were getting pulled into huge waves with the assistance of a motor. Not sure who the futurist is here; inventing materials and engineering to power yourself in the water/snow by wind, or using a motor vehicle to do it. IMO the ones who can experience the power of what a motor offers you simply by harnessing the wind vs. burning fossil fuels to do it argues that the motorheads are truely the futurists and those powered by nature are tapping into retro roots.

I'm not against motor enthusiasts tho... don't get me wrong. We would all be hypocrites since none of us can actually use wind or solar to get to a kitebeach.

good point barfly, I definitely get the good vibe from only using natural forces to feel powered. Very Happy

too bad our are kites are still made of oil. Confused

I'm sure I will burn in hell for my two-stroke jet-ski (if cost was no object I'd have a 4 stroke), but at least I try to stick to the fuel efficient cars.

Blowhard we were scouting kiting on top, there was always wind. We were also looking to the south east at where we ride at crater.

Dano, no problem take the thread to where ever you fancy.

Laughing Laughing Laughing thats funny shizzle

i think the spandex makes sense for competitive ski-racing. plenty of my pals growing up raced with them, and i don't think the were motivated by fashion sense.

hard to see the spandex being the winning margin for this event - it's probably all about the sled.

also - pkh and barfly. suppose someone invented a smelly, noisy, polluting 2-stroke motorized KITE. something that would closely approximate the kiting thrill on no-wind days, at the expense of your "only nature-power" ethic. i'm guessing you'd line up to buy one (as would i)

No, for fun I would just spread tofu peanut butter all over my ass and let my genetically altered non-shitting dog lick it off while I pumped a tree, naked. Got it pimp? Nice flame...

I got a sled to access b/c snowboarding & kiting, not just to be a sledneck, even though thats fun too.

We all drive cars to go kiting right?

Depends what you want it for. If you want to strictly go trail riding then you can get away with a short track sled. I would get at least a 700cc. You will spend around $3000 for a decent on.

If you want to get to the back country you will need at least a 700cc LONG track. 144" min. 156" even better. You will again spend around $3000. Polaris RMK 99 or newer is a great sled.

thanks for clearing that up for me.

not trying to offend anyone. i'm only saying motorized toys can be fun as well. i think the fun of kiting comes mainly from the rider controlling the power source, and the power source being up in the air. the nature-power is sort of incidental.

throw in some extra cuss words next time and it'll be just like kiteforum. Rolling Eyes

to sound like I'm being critical... we all burn more fuel in a day than most on the planet will burn in a lifetime... also why I said I'd be a hypocrite if I said otherwise. I've burned the 2stroke and will again I'm sure.
